Is religion the biggest problem the world is faces today?

Is Religion prayers, most of which you do not understand but recite by rote, going to places of worship to be in the company of like minded people, undertaking pilgrimages to places you regard holy, fasting on certain days, abstinence from sex, & abstinence from consuming some kind of food or drink. Conforming to these practices, are of no consequence & does not make you a better human being. On the contrary they prevent you from thinking for yourself. Sigmund Freud, the famous psychologist, was right in holding, “When a man is freed of religion, he has a better chance to live a normal & wholesome life”. Galileo, the celebrated astronomer, said the same thing many centuries earlier. “I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason & intellect has intended us to forget their use”. Abraham Lincoln put it succinctly: “When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That’s my Religion.” Albert Einstein: “The word God is for me nothing more than the expression & product of human weakness, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.

Italy’s favorite saint Padre Pio faked his stigma, by using carbolic acid. Mother Teresa revealed in one of her letters, that for the last half-a-century of her life, she felt no presence of God whatsoever. She has always wondered when she saw poverty and suffering, why, if there is a God does he not intervene? “As for me, the silence & emptiness is so great that I look & do not see, listen & do not hear. The tongue moves (in prayer) but does not speak.” She compared her problems to hell & admitted that she had begun to doubt the existence of heaven & God. Sex abuse to cost church Rs 2,670 crores:- Is the largest deal of its kind, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles agrees to compensate 500 victims of sex abuse for cases of the 1940s. Where is our money & donation going to? Pak Canadian dad kills daughter for not wearing hijab:- Muhammad Parvez strangles his 16 years daughter Aqsa in their Toronto home. 200 lashes for gang rape victim:- 21-year-old to receive punishment for being alone with a man who was not her relative. The missing years of Jesus Christ:- Hollywood project highlights Jesus Christ’s travels & adventures through India. In the final analysis, everyone should make up his or her own religion, & not unquestionably conforming to the one he or she was born into. Since we do not know where we came from, belief in god as our creator is optional. But there is no justice for calling Him just or merciful, because there is little evidence of justice or mercy in our world. In earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, He takes the lives of the good & the evil, believers & nonbelievers, old & young indiscriminately. All of which we describe as God. All we can do is to teach ourselves how to live in peace with ourselves & get the best out of the faculties we have, without harming others. What happens to us after we die should not be of much concern to us. There is no evidence whatsoever of believing in heaven, hell or re-incarnation. They are man made fantasies to beguile ourselves

agree with captain as well…although I kind of get your point. I personally lost faith in religion..it sucks! but that has nothing to do with god…because even though I don’t see IT the way they do…I still know something created us…and I believe that religion and politics are just one big test we were all made to pass…but do we?…but when you said that inncocent people die in tsunamis and because of that god wasn’t just I totally disagreed …our bodies are meant to stop working, weather its now or in years…that has nothing to do with you. When your body is alive you still have the chance to grow spiritually here. Because even though you might not care about afterlife…billions of people do..including myself. The question isn’t if god exists or not, that is up to you and your logic to decide. I believe that god made us and he put us in this fishtank we called earth…and he just lets us be…lets us create our reality, with tests along the way (religion, society, politics, one another!) if you pass these tests..we will finally get out of that fishtank and swim in the ocean!…for eternity..I wish people saw that their years in this life isn’t even a second after your bodies dies…like you said..yu should have your own religion and have your own ideas…acording to your life here, open up to more posibilities..because not always what you are taught is right, actually what you are taught is part of that test lol…be your true self PLUR

Jesus came to establish relationship.. not rules and regulations.

Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed.

If Mother Teresa did not feel the presense of God, it was she that moved..

not him.

He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

His spirit is real, and must be pursued.

God hears and answers prayers, if he intervened on his own, there would be no sin.

One day, he will, but, just not yet.

Right now, he participates with us, thru prayer, and he does move on those prayers, if one continues to believe. And he may not answer the way we want, when we want, or how we want.

We are to line our lives up with him, not the other way around.

His word says that when we pray according to his will, we will have what we ask for.

If our prayers are not being answered, it is time to look within, and also to see what we are involved in, as that can matter too.

The biggest problem the world faces today, is EVIL…

Whereever it may be found, in the church, or out.

In the world, or in our own homes, in our government, in our schools, in our communities.

God gave us power over evil, but, if we pretend it does not exist…

Then, we loose the battle.

And in this generation.. God gets blamed.

for our faults and failures.

Calling good evil… and evil good.. .is evil.

Is religion the biggest problem the world is faces today? I like the answer that the captain gave but let me take it one step farther.

PEOPLE are the “biggest problem the world is facing today”

But God alread has a fix for all of us, one way or another.

Answer #4

I think the world would be better off without religion, but I don’t think religion is the biggest problem in the world. The tendency to blindly believe what perceived authorities say, upon which religion is rooted, is a much bigger problem for the world.

Answer #5

Is religion the biggest problem the world is faces today?

No… IGNORANCE is.

Answer #6

Again… (ignoring the religious fanatics…) everyone feels their way is the right way, which is why americans fought so hard against the communists… and dont delude yourself… These idiots who fight in the name of religion, do you honestly think it is ever about religion? It’s about wealth and power… not about religion… At the end of the day everything is about greed. People can use whatever excuse they want (usually it is religion), but it is ALWAYS about money. Every single war, EVERY SINGLE ONE, was about wealth or power or both… no matter what the idealists spouted on about, it was simply about money…

Answer #7

An answer to ty. Every one feels that his religion is the only true religion, & he is prepared to die for it. The maximum amounts of wars fought during the centuries are based on religion. If you are a Christian, will you entertain a Muslim in your house? Every one despises the other. Even today wars are being fought. Terrorism is in the daily news. Will this ever stop. It will only stop when man realizes that religion is the cause of all evil.

Answer #8

Now I’m not a huge fan of organized religion… But you pick on any sort of organization, institution, anything really and it’s going to come off looking bad the way you’ve done it. If you look at the destructive nature of science, the atom bomb, guns, poisons, etc, you could argue a case against inventions… Should we stop science and progress just because a few bad things come out from it? You can say what happens after we die shouldnt concern us, but it does concern a lot of people. A lot of people find comfort in their religions. They turn to faith when they have nothing left. If you think they’re praying to themselves, well what difference does it make to you?
