How can I be proud of my religion without getting fired?

I’m a Wiccan that works and lives in an all christian community. I know there is people around me that are wiccan but no one admits its cause when you tell someone, thay automatically think devil worshiper and spells and voodoo crap. I’m running into a lot of issues at work about it cause everyone is always inviting everyone to church,( its just the thing to do I guess.) I’m frequently asked to go and I keep refusing till I just get anoyed then thats when it comes out. I’M WICCAN, STOP ASKING ME!! I dont last long at a job after that cause once they ASSUME abnormal activitys that they THINK has to do with my religion, I’m gone within 2-3 weeks. I dont want to have to not express and be proud of my religion, but no one even wants to listen when I try to explain what I belieive in. How do I keep a job and advertise freely about my religion while at the same time not get stoned?

Answer #1

Just MAYBE they genuinely care about you - just maybe, they’re they’re doing their job as Christians, as Christ commanded ‘go into all (no restricted areas mentioned) and preach the gospel’ - so bottom line: just maybe they care about where you spend eternity - you certainly have free choice to accept or reject Jesus Christ - just be polite and say (if this is how you feel), ‘there’s a time and place to discuss this subject, I do not wish to here, thank you’ - I’m sure you’re an honest person, but I doubt you were ‘stoned’ - I wish you the best !!

Answer #2

Don’t worry about it They can’t fire you for being a witch it’s against the law be proud of who you are any one threats you just look a them, smile, & laugh

One thing that gives us Christians a bad name is other Christians that are judgmental. And, to some degree, Christian or not, we ALL are. If your co-workers and boss are all true Christians they will love you. They may not believe the same and may continue to ask you to join them. If you don’t wish to be bothered by them, simply ask them to give you your space. Christianity was never meant to be a ram down your throat faith. In time you may even feel interested in going with them.

A very wise person told me once,”If you want people to accept Jesus you must first show them.” A life that’s fully enveloped in Christ will be shown by how the person acts not in what he/she may say. I learned a song a few years back and the refrain was,”actions speak louder than words”. A man I met years ago told me that, “you’re the only Jesus that some will ever see.”

I know several Wiccans and none Advertise their religious beliefs. I practiced for several years and was active with 2 covens. My closest friends knew but I didn’t share that info with associates from works. Keep in mind silence is the best policy on the issue.

Answer #5

Although the advice given is good, it misses the point. Why is the majority allowed to bully non-Christians and why are companies allowed to discriminate against them when it’s clearly against the law?

Keeping silent is a great way to keep the peace and keep your job (which may be all you care about) but it isn’t going to change anything.

Answer #6

Unless you get a Christian judge…

Answer #7

Translation: They will try to impress their beliefs on you; and if you don’t submit, they’ll alienate you (find a way to get you fired).

Answer #8

If someone asks you to go to church, tell them you already attend services. It doesn’t matter that these services likely occur in your own backyard, and it’ll probably settle them.

If that doesn’t work, just tell them you’re not comfortable discussing religion with people you’re not familiar with.

Dear wellbehavedwomenrarelymakehistor, This is were the phrase comes in “pick your battles well”. There is never a need to disclose personal information to your co-workers. These people are you co-workers not your best buddies. There is professional detachment and that is you go to work, you work, you exchange light chit chat, go home. I have been with agencies for many years and no one knows my personal life, my religion etc. I go there to work and I have my own friends that need not include them. There is nothing wrong with this and from my experience; in the work force for 35 years I don’t believe anyone has know my religion or personal beliefs. Sue…good luck

Answer #10

I’m an atheist. A lot of atheists stay in the closet at work. When I left my last job and made my rounds saying goodbye to everyone several coworkers confided in me that they too were atheists but didn’t reveal it because they were afraid that it would hurt their career (our boss was a devout Mormon).

My strategy is to neither advertise nor hid my atheism. After I work someplace for a while most people eventually know that I’m an atheist but you don’t have to tell people right away, If you are a religious minority it is probably better of coworkers work with you for a while and form their opionion before revealing that you aren’t Christian. After they know you are a good employee and a good person they are more likely to accept you in spite of your unorthodox beliefs.

Answer #20

Wiccans. . . have long took pride in that they did not proselytize. Some of the younger crowd who are not part of the older covens and do not have real knowledge of the burning times want to break their silence. . . In the process not only are they shunned by traditional religions but also by the older Covens. . . I use to work with a girl who took pride in sharing her wiccan beliefs I got to talking to her once and found the had never been invited to a large sabbet gathering like they have in the DFW area. I told her no keep silent for several months on her beliefs and see if she was. . . 5 months later she was. . . Keeping silent is the way of the Coven. . . A wiccan can spot a wiccan with no words or any outward signal. Wiccans do not proselytize never have and never will, if you do you are considered an outsider by the larger covens. Silence is more than a safety messure in Wicca it is a living tradition in honoring the dead of the tradition from the Burning time 1300s - 1700s.
