This question is for persons of a religion other than Christianity here - Would the following quotes that are presently on this site be acceptable if said about your God - would you be offended ? (If referring to the Christian God they are never removed - a few cut/copy examples below)

  • if god existed and his teachings enforced, everyone would still be going to hell, lol
  • it shows their god to be a self-serving meglomaniac
  • he is either vain, or incrediibly cruel
  • As I said, he is either vain, or incredibly cruel
  • He is so insecure that he demands people to adore and worship him, and so cruel that if you don’t he will banish you to hell for eternity
  • suggest that he is not doing his job too well
  • God does exist his name is Chuck Norris
  • only that we worship and pray to an eogotisitical bastard (god)
  • because god needs some entertainment and we are like a TV progame to him/her/it

  • Charming god you have there
  • God is a fictional character written in the image of crude men

Okay, I am a Christian and I want to make that clear before I post this. My problem is not with people disparaging God, because in the end it will become clear to them that he does exist. My problem is people disparaging God when someone is questioning the Christians about Him. It makes me very upset when someone says “for the Christians” and then you see non-christians coming in and making the christians look like buffoons because we don’t have all the answers. It makes me angry because some of those people will never take the time to learn about him because of those comments. It really upsets me when people take parts of the bible out of context and say this is what this means without stopping to look at what is happening before and/or after the verse.

I do not like hearing people making bad remarks about God, because I know that it will be that much harder to minister to someone else.

As for the comment that we say worse about others, I know most of us are taking a verse to try and explaine something, and if someone gets easily offended it is because they do not know the context. This makes me sad and upset, because we are humans and do not know everything.

I don’t know much about science, and for that reason, I do not go spouting off about every scientific text I hear as though I really know what it means. I am sorry if this offends anyone, but I feel it is wrong for non-Christians to do that with the bible unless they understand the context. I have heard so many remarks that God is bad because he allows this or that to happen, but what people don’t understand is it is not God who makes our descisions, it is us.

If something bad happens, he is the one I turn to for comfort. He is the one I turn to for answers. He is the one who carries me. Maybe you ask yourself, why does she think he’s even there. Well, there are times, like this past Saturday morning, when I cry out to God, because no one else seems to care, and I just feel comforted and things get if not better, at least easier. It is because I have seen prayer answered, and it is because I hear the truth in the bible.

Every person deserves to hear the truth about God. It is their right, and it makes me angry when others take that away from them.

Sorry for ranting and raving, but I truly hope this helps.

This question is off topic. . . My fellow Christians this question was directed to not Christians yet most of the comments here are from Christians. . . I hate to tell ya this but your being rude. . . . pookabear, if you would like to ask the question again You may want to tell the christians to keep silent and let the non-Christians who the questian is directed to answer. . Locked due to the fact no one has respect enough to let the question be answered by those it is directed too.

Answer #3

Tori, I am in your corner completely. I think the post should be divided in two parts one for believers the other for unbelievers, and that respect should be demanded. A Christian is not called to debate… they are called to share… and it is very difficult to do, in an atomsphere of ugliness.

You can tell by a persons request for the most part, in what spirit they come.

Whether it be argumentative, debasing, or humble.

We all know which one God honors.

The way I deal with it, for the most part, is to read the question, and post my answer, without reading the other comments.

Many of them anger my spirit, and that is the whole point, that is what they mean to do.

They want to prove that we are human(and we certainly are), and they want to bring us down to their level(of argueing), which we dare not stoop to.

The words are clearly meant to inflame.

Don’t allow it.

Don’t stoop to that level.

We do not have to prove anything, to anyone.

God commands us to share, but, not under these circumstances.

He called us to serve him, to love him, to obey him.

If someone wants a response from us, and they show respect then, they deserve the answer, if we have it, if we do not, then, they can look further.

We are under no obligation to anyone, except God.

And it is not his will for us to be provoked.

Simply keep silent.

The ones that truly want to find the answers, will.

God will see to it.

Remember, he knows the intents of the heart.

And judges accordingly, when the time comes.

It is not his will for his children to take a beating.

We do not have to defend his honor, either.

He can do that all by himself.

Remember what happens when the rocks start falling?

Where will one go, when he has mocked and defamed the God of Heaven?

Where can one hide?

Remember that the bible says it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.

The detractors remind me of Goliath, when he was tauting the Israelites.

He fell, in one day… by the hand of one little guy, named David.

Do we have any little Davids around?

Perhaps God has brought them to this board for them to be prayed for, if they did not come here and torment the Christians, then they might not be prayed for.

I do not believe salvation comes to one, before they are prayed for.

So… pray, that God would reveal himself, to each and everyone that comes here to do harm, and to speak evil of the God that we serve.

He can take the heat, it is us that have to be careful.

When the time is right, he will speak, from heaven.

And all will know, exactly who he is, and they will be ashamed.

It may be too late for many, but, that is their choice.

Let them hang their selves, by their own words.

If it was us doing it, then, we would face the same penalty.

Do not be vexed in spirit.

Do not allow it.

Post your answer and leave.

Leave it up to God, for the battle is his.

God be with each of his children, in this very trying time.

Stay faithful and true.

Let the heathen rage.

Answer #4

Since I don’t have a god, I’m not much offended by these. And even if I did, disparaging someone’s god is not the same as disaparaging the individual who worships said god.

That said, do you suppose non-Christians get offended by these oft posted quotes?

“The fool says in his heart ‘there is no god’” “Cast not your pearls before swine”

Not that these actually are directly aimed at other posters.

Interesting recent study that reflects:

Two Jewish researchers went on campus (this is not a joke) last year to see just how anti-Semitic the faculty were. Their findings? In a survey of over 6,600 college professors across the country, they found virtually no anti-Semitism. Instead, they found a distinct bias against evangelical students: More than half (53%) of college faculty view evangelical students unfavorably. Mormons are next at 33%, followed by Muslims at 22%.

Let me put this in proper perspective: In the United States of America, professors are two and a half times more likely to view evangelical Christian students unfavorably than Muslim students.

The study also found that: Professors are five times more likely to be atheists than the general public: 19% vs. 4%; There are far fewer Evangelicals among the faculty than the general public: 11% vs. 33%; Professors are more than twice as likely to identify themselves as liberal than the general public: 48% to 22%. (This is consistent with an earlier study which found that Democrats outnumber Republicans ten to one on college faculty.)

People often make comments about things or people in which they have no knowledge. How judgmental we all can be at times. Think of the playground and little children playing. All’s good until someone different than themselves comes along and has a different opinion or view. The name calling starts then the ridicule and harmful remarks. The picked on or hurt individual more often than not leaves never to return. Personally, I find such comments very offensive because I used to be like those who could care less if God existed or not, or He’s cruel and unfair etc. HOWEVER, I’ve since come to realise in my own life that I couldn’t take a single breath except that my Lord give it. People will believe what they want, or not, as long as they want. The message is out there and it’s up to the masses to find it. I just hope that more find it before it’s too late.

Answer #7

Religions, like any other beliefs, should be criticized and questioned. If, as many claim, religion affects both this life and the afterlife, then it is imperative that we question as much as possible so we know we’ve found the right answers.

Some of us use science as a tool to question and criticize religious beliefs. I realize that makes some people uncomfortable but that’s just the consequence of public debate.

The problem here, I think, is that people seem to feel that their beliefs are sacred and should not be touched by others. That’s totally false. In the public square, everything is subject to debate. You have a right to believe and I have a responsibility not to be ugly to you. However, I have every right to question and criticize your beliefs just as you have the right to question and criticize mine.

Answer #8

If you’re suggesting that if these are offensive, then they should be removed, I disagree. Just because some people find a statement offensive is not reason enough to prevent people from making that statement,

Answer #9

Why should their beliefs deserve respect? If they don’t think another does. Frankly their God deserves all the ridicule he’s got coming to him.

Answer #10

This question is for persons of a religion other than Christianity here. . . And yet 3 replys are Christians. . . . .

Answer #11

Nope, because everyone is titled to their opinion. Not to mention, the quotes many people have said about non-religious people are just as bad :)

Answer #12

I think this questoin should be locked. I’m a christian and I don’t go around making “fun” of other people’s religions. The reason their are humans is because God felt like he should prove to the devil ( a falling angel ) that lower life forms can choose over sin. The devil knows he’s going down in the end he’s just trying to take ome people with him. There are more of us because of sin. Adam and Eve sinned and we are their desendints. I hope you understand that just because someone may seem unbelieveable to you doesn’t mean others may believe it. Example : SOME people believe the holocaust never happened. I know it happened and by ignoreing it, we can’t learn, so, now it will happen again so we get it through our sculls.

Answer #13

“A Christian is not called to debate… they are called to share… “

And yet in 1 Peter 3:15, Christians are instructed to always be ready to give a reason they believe in Jesus. Quite clearly, the writer expects that Christians will be involved in debates and will need to be ready to engage in them thoughtfully.

Your answer would seem to imply that Christians are willing to share their beliefs, but not give reasons for them during the course of debate.

“I think this questoin should be locked.”

To this poster, I would have to say, if you favor censoring questions simply because they raise issues you’re not comfortable with, it’s probably best you not get involved in the first place.
