Why do organized religions feel the need to recruit?

yeah I probably spelt that wrong, but anyways, why do religions feel the need to recruit, and lure people toward their religion with food, shelter? I mean if I want to worship I’ll call you, but please dont come to my door asking me to save myself. Anyone else that just thinks that organized religion has gone too far?

Answer #1

oh and shelbylowe2010, “if your wrong and there is an after life then your screwed in hell FOREVER!”? sounds like a scare tactic. ever wonder if maybe people are telling you if you don’t worship God etc. you’ll go to hell just so you’ll behave? what if hell is just a fictional place to get you to stay in line? not trying to prove anything, just something to think about.

Answer #2

“ummm they are trying to prevent you from going to hell… I think it is a good thing… some people dont know how to get saved so thats why people go out and do that… to help you jeez!”

lmao well if that isn’t a load of bull people know & choose not to, it’s as simple as that. You have internet, libraries that rent out bibles & such, churchies are oppen, church channels, church hotlines, church radio station. If they don’t know by now their either reatred, lazy, or complelty forien from society. They have churches built in Japan for crying out loud, do you serisly believe what you are saying?

Yeah I believe they’ve gone to far, I’m fed up & sick of it & short on patience when it comes to matters such as that now. They try converting me by quoting oarts of the bible I doubt even they understand, telling me I’ll go to hell, etc as if I haven’t heard it all before. Then they try pulling the bible forbids crap & disproving my beliefs. So I whip out what I know & disprove their religion, boy it’s funny as hell let me tell you. because all I use it facts, they have to make things up. They get so irritated, it’s funny. I know it’s wrong, but hey, not like what they’re doing is right, & atleast I don’t start rumors when I speak of a religion, you know?

I think what shelby is trying to say is, they don’t want people going to hell, theyre trying to save us. I think itmore has somehting to do with the fact that people like to think they’re right and the more people who think they’re right the righter they are. by the way, I agree with you jaes, in my opinion there is no hell or heaven.

Answer #4

im not trying to use it against you if thats what you felt like. or maybe your just making a general statement. if I was sharing my oppinion to anyone it would be to help them. not judge them or make them feel like I was.

Answer #5

Secular charities provide aid without demanding that those receiving denounce their religion.

If Jesus were real, which one would he think less hypocritical? The one that gives with no expectation of quid pro quo, or the one demanding supplication in return?

Answer #11

Answer #12

If the church didn’t reach out, then, you would say we were selfish…

If you had the key to life, and sat on it, withholding it from all those around you, then, what… would you say?

The people that reach out, obviously think that they have something to offer, and if you aren’t interested… all you have to do is say no.

God commands that his love be shared.

How that is done, varies from individual to individual…

and church to church.

There is a huge variety now, of people serving the Lord, and while that can be very confusing, it can also be good, in the fact, that there surely is something available for any who desire it.

Blessings…

I know it doesnt even help to debate with people about my oppinion. but I feel like as a christian it’s my duty to say something. just because if you can help one person, then it’s worth it. I DONT believe in shoving my religion down people’s throats, but I do believe that everyone needs a chance. I BELIEVE hell is real. and turning God away is an unpardonable sin, one that you got to hell for. im sure im wasting my time. but just like you, im standing up for what I believe in and stating my opinion. im not FORCING anyone to believe this- but I do feel that God will come back one day. or I’ll die, whichever is first. but when it’s all said and done. I’d rather be in heaven, with my God. than hell.

Answer #14

Mine doesn’t ‘feel the need’, It’s not only our religious obligation; it’s also our moral duty - CARE enough to share the Good News.

If you were caught up in a flash flood and saved by someone who pulled you to safety by a rope, it would be natural for you to act to save someone else if the circumstances were reversed - Why did you throw them the rope? - you CARED - same with the above and far more important because it involves eternity…Hope this helps clarify, if not, I tried…Take care !!

One must decide for himself/herself what they will do when it comes to Jesus Christ.

Answer #15

it’s not “recruiting’ in the eyes of religion. churches that “recruit” are doing it, (in theory,) for the good of those they are trying to recruit. the people get “saved by God” and have seen how much better their life is, and they want to share that joy with others. so they go out and spread “the good word” to everybody willing to listen. when you look at it from that standpoint, it’s not so much annoying as it is kind of them. but if you don’t believe it and don’t want to hear it, then they’re just bugging you. -but at least their intentions are innocent. that’s better than nothing, right?

Answer #16

They feel mandated by god to “spread the word”. The problem is that many don’t realize or care that a better “witness” for god would be respect, love and understanding of others rather than trying to cram their belief down our throats through intimidation and guilt. It also doesn’t help to have the attitude that their belief is the only “true” belief and if you don’t submit to that belief then you are GOING TO HELL.
