What are the regulations involving owning a Capuchin monkey in New York?

No. I don’t want to get one now. I want to go to college and take things involving zoology and care-taking for exotic animals such as this monkeys, and I also want to continue researching until I am out of college and have a good job, and house. Putting that aside, I would like some help! How to get, who to call, where to research. I want a monkey-companion, But I believe this is banned in NEW YORK unless you have certain permits? I’m completely willing to take the monkey to schools for educational reasons, and most anything else needed. Please, info is appreciated.

Answer #3

Getting monkeys takes about 6 months of inspections and paper filing before you get one. I own 3 pygmys and I had to show I was financially stable my house was monkey friendly and stress free, my other pets won’t harm them in any way and other things like that. The program you get them through may interview you to see how much you know about the species and raising it. In the end you are raising them to breed them so you can’t get it fixed males are violent so if you don’t handle things being thrown you may want a female. Some people that give you the monkey let you have it as a luxury so you can make them infertile. Of course I live in MA sooo NY’s rules must be different I just googled a lot.

Thank you; I hae actually decided not to get a monkey. They live for a long time, and considering I have many, many other things I want to do, I don’t think it would be fair to the monkey..
