How to reduce the pain?

I havent got a cavity in 10 years and after going to the dentist today….i have a little one so if that wasnt heartbreaking enough I’m getting it filled, i want to know if there is any way to reduce the pain of the needle they give you before they start drilling?…last time i went all i could remember is crying when the dentist gave it to me it hurt so bad…so is there any way AT ALL i could reduce the pain? maybe ask him to numb the area first?…one time they did but then one time they didnt…do i have to ask?

Answer #1

It never hurts to ask, tell them that she shot really hurts you can they please use numbing cream before giving it to you.

Answer #2

It’s just a tiny pinch - how can it be that bad? They don’t typically do it for people older than 10, because you really should be able to handle that minimal amount of pain, but sure - ask for the numbing gel if you must.

Answer #3

last time it really didnt feel like a pinch, honest, it felt like a pinch with the cream but without it man it felt like the needle went too deep, it hurt really really bad, so maybe it was their fault then? some of it even got on my tongue idk if thats normal either

Answer #4

Was it A cavity on your lower teeth? Cause with that they have to put the needle deeper then on the top teeth. And yes it is normal for your tongue to be numb as well. That whole side of your mouth should be numb.

Answer #5

well this one is on my bottom tooth…kinda dont wanna be a baby and ask for the gel but i hate the pain
