What is the reason(s) for all these kids "cutting" themselves?

They talk about it. Hiding the scars, ect. It’s become sort of a “thing” with some teenagers. I could look it up, but wanted to see what they might say about it.

Most of them are scared, neglect family abouse to feel better about them selves lots of reasons

Adults do it too. It’s like an escape. It makes you calm down when you’re upset. I don’t know the personal reasons there’s just to many but I do know that there are a lot of people that do it for attention.

It has gotten worse since i was a kid. I have never heard about that stuff untill almost recently. I know it has always been around but now its around a lot more. Its becoming a trend kinda. I think some have real problems that they need an escape for and others are just trying to “fit” in maybe , im not sure becuase i dont see it as something cool to be doing. Its a problem. I dont understand it

For some it’s from depression or as a result of some trauma and it becomes in a way, relief. It’s an addiction and stress relief for some. I have realized that it’s almost become a trend as well where ‘emo’ girls want to fit into the category so they cut. Along with that sometimes it’s a means for getting attention.

Don’t forget some just want attention.

Teenagers aren’t the only ones that cut. Cutting is spread out from young children and adults. Many people use it as a way to cope with depression, trauma and other things. People who cut usually do it out of impulse the first time then become addicted and feel the need to do it. Also when a person cuts it oftens releases endorphines causing a high which relieves some of torment a person might go through. There are some people doing it for attention and to fit in but many people who do cut feel like its their only option and that they deserve the pain. A reason a person cuts varies depending on the person.

There are multiple reasons. I can be the rollercoaster of emotions from anticipation, pain, and resolution. It can be self-loathing and a wish to punish themselves. It can be the sense of control that comes from mastery over fear and pain of injury. People with emotional pain sometimes find physical pain comforting. It can be seen as a rite of passage or a way to gain membership in or identify with a group. It can be a way to get back at someone or a cry for help.

emotional abuse or pain cant be seen so people will turn the there pain into to physical so they can actually see where its at

I didn’t know that. I guess I used substance abuse as the answer which didn’t work either.
