Is there a reason for my dog to keep eating dirt?

Okay… she’s been eating dirt for a while now and I’m starting to wonder about her. I’ve tryed giving her more food and water or even another kind of dog food but she still keeps eating dirt. I thought maybe she was eating the grass around it but I was wrong. Is this bad? BTW she’s almost 13 years old :)

This happens to my dogs too. And also if your dog is old, he might just start eating anything and everything

There are many reasons that could explain this. Many animals eat small quantities of dirt, mud, and sand to help them digest things or to counteract toxic diets. She could have Pica, which is the ingestion or eating of non-food materials and substances (…these materials have no nutritive values & there could be underlying reasons for this abhorrent behavior). She may have nutrient insufficiency OR mineral deficiency. Or, yeah… she may just simply like the taste of it. You never know. I think you should bring these things up with your vet just in case! Hope this helps :)
