Can I put a chocolate colored brown dye or a caramel color dye over my faded red dye?

Will the red still show up?

Answer #1

yes but you will have to dye it a few times to get the hint of the red shade out of it- i had red hair and i dyed it brown 3 times and then 2 lighter browns and even now i still have a hint of red in my hair

Answer #2

Omg thanks I’ve put this question up like 3 times and no one answered. I had a feeling some red will still show but oh well -_- I have now black on top and red on the bottom. I want to eventually do brown over my black and dye the bottom half like tomorrow with a chocolate brown color. Then once my whole head is brown I want to do a light brown, so I had all these questions lol, thank you tho.

Hello :) I guess it depends on how light the red is. Copper? Mahogany? Burgundy? If the the color red you have is lighter than the chocolate or caramel, then yes, it will cover. But if the faded color is darker, then no. The concept is: the more color you put in, the darker it will get. Unless of course, the product your using has a type of bleach in it versus dye. Also, Chocolate brown kind-of already has a red base. So if you actually mean a non-redish brown (im assuming so) you should buy a dye with an ASH/COOL base. Ash is green and it covers the red because it is the opposite on the color wheel and vis versa. Oh….and i jus read ur comment to tiffany… well, like i said, the more dye the darker. that’s why it’s impossible dealing w/black hair. unless u strip it. which would cost $12 at walgreens for a color correction box :) but if u got any more questions feel free to ask cuz i love talking about hair and colors :D

Lol omg me too. I love anything that has to do with hair etc lol!!!! Anyway my red was like a fire red but now its sorta like a coppery more red than orange. And yeah I did my bottom half with the color corrector box I think called color zap but now I want to be a brunette. A pretty brown tho. I plan to do later a bunch of brown highlites on the black part till its covered but for now I wanna do the bottom half brown so I can trick myself that I’m almost their lmao. And see if I rlly rlly want to do brown.

Answer #5

lol, trick yourself XD thats funny! It probly works though. cuz i was getting sick of my blonde hair, so doing the roots made me happy to be playing around with color again. But what i’m really waiting for, is senior pictures to be over, then i’m going to dye my hair cuz i cant stand not to anymore!!! The drastic color changes give you such a rush dont they? X) Yep, brown is a pretty color. :) but since it’s my natural color, it’s the ONLY color I dont want ;P light brown. bleh. not for me.
