Can I just put brown dye on red hair?

I have a lady with deep red hair and wants it coloured brown, can I go ahead and put brown on her hair, or will I need to be careful because her hair is red?

hello. im 14 and have been dying my hair since I was 13. I was a blonde then went to red. then gradually got darker about every 2 months or so. I’ve finally decided to go back to blonde. my hair was a dark pretty red and to get the red out I used a light ash brown. now my hair is brown and there is no red tinit whatsoever. so I hope I helped (=

You’re not a professional hairdresser, are you?

In order to offset the red tones you’ll have to use something with green undertones - an ash brown, for example.

Usually the colour chart on the box gives a good indication of what colour to expect, but I recommend you do the swatch test first.
