Advice for toilet training my 6 month old puppy?

Ok so my pup is approaching 6months and she still isn’t fully toilet trained yet. I’ve done the whole training thing before with my other dog, but she was really easy to train and was going outside within the space of a week. Back to my pup, I take her out but as soon as she gets home she pee’s and poops! Sometimes she goes outside, but only if you keep her outside for hours. I live in a flat so its hard to get out quickly and often, plus we have no garden!

Please, any advice!?

Maybe you haven’t completely removed the odour from where she pees/poops inside! My puppy is somewht at trained, just not really. We got her at 7 months, and she usually goes outside but she STILL goes inside, and the sad thing about it is that I can’t do anything, because it’s the carpet. All I can do is ask the cleaning carpet people to remove the smell, but they don’t always succeed either, which really gets me annoyed sometimes.

Make an effort and try to notice what your puppy does before she/he goes. Does she walk around? Does he sniff things? Take him/her out ! Make a BIG deal when he/she poops/pees in the right place. Maybe keep some treat outside, so when he/she did a good job, praise and give him/her some.

Putting food where your dog pees/poops is a bad idea! They usually don’t go in the same place. They know the difference between food and toilet, lol. If your puppy poops in the living room, play with him/her more in the living room. Maybe make him/her sleep there too. Eventually they’ll understand that it’s not the toilet area.

Hope that helps.

Oh, of course - don’t clean up in front of your puppy/dog. They might think it’s funny. And then do it again, lol. Bring him/her outside before you clean. If you catch your dog doing the wrong thing, say ‘nooo’, or make a big fuss, and take him/her outside. Don’t yell at your dog/stick his/her nose into the mess. That just makes them scared of you, they don’t learn from it either. Positive reinforcement is the way to go.

You’re simply going to have to out wait that pup when you take her outside…then make a BIG BIG woop over how great she is…Also, while you’re “waitin”, keep saying “go pee pee”…”go poop”…whatever…At 6 months, she’s got the ability to hold it, but obviously hasn’t gotten the idea of WHERE to eliminate…

I’ve found that when a dog is this old, exercise will make them have to go…If she’s a large dog, playing ball, or frisbee might be what she needs to get her gut going…If she’s small, a good FAST walk will get the gut moving…

Once she’s starts getting the hang of it just your saying “go pee pee” will make her have to go…keep up the BIG woop when she goes, too. Sometimes a treat for going (a piece of a dog bisquit, or even a kibble) immediately after they go, will speed up the process if she’s food motivated.

first they need to know they can’t go to the bathroom inside! then attach a bell or little chimes on a string tie it on the door handle so everytime you open the door to go outside the bell rings. Pretty soon they will get the idea that when you ring the bell that means you have to go outside. when ever they have to go to the bathroom the will paw the bell and wait for you to open the door for them. It works trust me, I have trained a few dogs this way, even a ten year old dog

Restrict her food. give her 3 meals a day at the same times every day, this will make her bowel movements predicatable. when you know it’s time take her out. some dogs are just uncomfortable with doing their business outside…give her lots of praise when she goes outside. also when a dog is very excited they poop a lot faster. get her excited before you take her out.

put food where ever you want her to pee/poop, lol I don’t know, she should look for a place to pee/poop in! my cat looked for a place the first time I got her, and her kittens were following her and peeing/pooping where ever she pees/poops! but I didn’t need food! lol sounds like dogs are different!

DONT leave the door open all the time, this doesnt help at all when you are trying to teach them the difference between outside & in. I trained my first german shepherd to pee on command when I said ‘toilet’ but I am really struggling since getting a second dog to get the new puppy to NOT go to toilet at night, its so much more frustrating, because of course your in bed and not able to catch him at it!!

I have a 6month old Bischon frise, who is also not potty trained and its getting vey frustrating!! I’ve tried everything but she still chooses to go in the house knowing she’ll get into bother. the door is open all day for her to go out. I have noticed she doesnt want me seeing her poop in or out and is very sneeky when doing the loo so I dont see her. I dont know what else to do, never known a dog take so long.
