pulled/straigned ligament

Well on Fri. night I pulled or ‘badly’ hurt my hand and my thumb couldn’t move for a long while, my g friend was really worried because I nearly cryed, and I’m not the kinda guy that crys, she thought I had broken my hand, but I was told that I had pulled a ligament in my right hand, where the thumb connects to the rest of the palm, it still really hurts and I can’t bandage it because its hurts when I try, what else could I do to support it and does anyone know how long it will take to mend, I was told quite a while but does anyone know specific lengths of times? Help it hurts real bad. p.s I’ve also been told I don’t need to see a doc.

Try keeping your hand in a glove and don’t move it much. Massage the area gently and slowly with something like hot rub every morning and night for a couple of minutes. Helps with the blood circulation in the area. It’ll probably start feeling better in a week or so, then you can start to slowly move it abit and stretching it out in different directions - basically just exercise your thumb to rehabilitate it.

That’s pretty much what I did when I dislocated my knee. Didn’t see a doctor because I was in a rural country but I pretty much figured that I snapped a ligament. Confirmed it 3-4 weeks later when I flew back home and I was 90% fine by then.
