Pregnant again, how to tell our families?

I graduated highschool in may 2006, and found out two weeks later I was pregnant. The father and I have been together for over 2 years now, and our beautiful daughter is 14 months old. Recently, since about december I have been having baby fever. The feeling of wanting another child. Three weeks ago, we found out I was pregnant. My fiancee, daughter and I have been living on our own since before I graduated, but just recently moved back in with my mother to save up money to purchase a home. Our credit will be good enough to get at least a town home before the baby is due. However, my mom has these glorious ideas that I should start going to cosmotology school full-time (which I intend to do), and just continue to live with her until I graduate. My fiancee’s family is in a different awkward situation, one of his older sisters finally got pregnant this year (after several miscarrages and years of trying), and I dont want to steal the light from her. Or be looked down on because as my soon-to-be mother in law put it when discussing the sisters pregnancy, “you were single and knocked up, she’s married and pregnant”. we intend on marrying on july 4, 2009 and have been planning this before the pregnancy news. My delima is, how do I break all this news to everyone? When I told them I was pregnant the first time I got the whole “abortion” talk, and quiet frankly I am so happy to be pregnant again, that I dont want them to destroy my mood the way they did the first time… What should I do… Any advice?

Hi,

In a situation like this, there is only one thing you can do. Sit both of your parents’ down, and if you did it in a public place that may be best. Go out to dinner or something and tell them calmly. They can’t throw a fit in a nice restaurant :)

I wanted to say thank you prkswlflwr, that is very true that the families cant nor will they freak out in a public atmosphere. I wanted to give an update that we decided against living with my mother, and to continue doing things on our own. We stayed with her three whole days, and felt extremely awkword. I decided to continue working on my Associates in Business Managment instead of leaving the progress and beginning cometology school, after all a degree will always be something to fall back on. My fiancee also told my mother about the pregnancy news, not such a good idea… but I guess the beans are out of the bag for half my problem!?! Now I really just need advice on when to break the news to my fiancee’s family? I especially dont want to steal the light from his sister, nor get the “knocked-up” speach again. Does anyone have anymore suggestions??
