Do you prefer living in a small town or big city?

Why? I’m just wondering. I recently moved to a really big city after living in a super small town for almost a year, and I’m actually enjoying the city better.

Answer #1

I’ve lived in both and i prefer small towns. I live in a small town currently and i won’t move back to the city unless i absolutely had too. There is less traffic, less crime, less polution, clearer skies with a better view of the stars, better schools for my children, and everything here just seems calmer and simpler. I love small towns.

Well Im not sure anywhere in my country qualifies as a big city. Our largest city has about 1 million or so people. The city im from originally has about 400,000 people and I really like the size. Im studying in a place with about 100,000 people and I find it too small.I wouldnt like to live anywhere too crowded, but I dont like places that are really small either.

Answer #6

I live in a small town. I’ve never lived in a big city. I like small towns because I basically know everyone. There’s hardly any crimes. Everyone’s super friendly. There’s wild animals all around, which is entertaining.

I used to live in a town with 370,000 inhabitants when I lived with my parents. Not really a city, though Bonn used to be the capital of my country back then. It was still a sleepy place. Now I’m in a place that has 4 houses, 2 inhabited by elderly people and 2 by families with kids, one of them my family. We have a larger village nearby (half an hour to walk, some minutes by car) where about 1000 people live and where there is a primary school and stores and everything. The next smaller town isn’t that far either. The next larger town is 30 minutes (by car) away. We have a bus line that comes by only 10 times per day and half as often at the weekends. But my kids can use it to go to school when they are beyond primary.

When I lived in Bonn, I liked being able to go everywhere (school, public swimming pool, cafés) by bicycle or public transports when I was a kid. But then we had no garden and only a small home.

Now in my new home, I own a garden where I plant veggies and we have pets and a lot of space for play. We also have a large house. It’s an old half-timber house, it’s 500 years old with a lot of rooms and an old wood&coal stove in the kitchen.

I love being able to leave the front door and windows open all day. I love being able to just let my kids play and never worry about traffic accidents or evil strangers. My 94-year old neighbor knows everyone in the area and will stand on his gardens fence and chat with everyone who walks by with their dogs or goes hiking in the forest nearby. So I’m pretty sure no one can enter my grounds without a witness.

I lived a small town for seven years. It was really small. It had a stop sign, church, tavern, post office and volunteer ambulance. That was it. It was a great place to raise a kid, because the whole town was more like a neighborhood. Everyone looked out for each other’s children when they played. My son had much more freedom than he would have had in a city.

The down side was that the town was very insular and unaccepting of outsiders and new ideas. Everyone knew each other’s business, and if you did something wrong it was NEVER forgotten. It was relief to move back home. I prefer a medium sized town.

Answer #9

I grew up in a small rural town. Now I live in a fairly large city. Overall I prefer city life. I find small college towns to be the best of both worlds. There isn’t the traffic and tension of the city but colleges keep the area young and provide many cultural opportunities that are often missing in small towns. When I retire I might move back to the country. There is some very pretty areas in New Mexico and it might be fun to build an earth sheltered home and be as self sufficient as possible.

Answer #10

Small town. The city has too much people, so that means less space for me, too much noise, and so much drama. Plus you don’t get to enjoy nature the real way. So I would love to live in a small town rather than in the city by far…
