Why does some poop float and some doesn't?

My daughter just asked this :-/

Answer #1

I think it depends on what she ate. Some foods make it float

Answer #2

A healthier diet that is alkaline in nature will result in bowel movements that float - this is a good thing. More acidic diets that are higher in fats, etc., will result in bowel movements that sink or stick to the bottom of the toitlet - not so healthy….

Answer #3

Depends on density and what you ate I guess? >_<

Answer #4

Well… most likely comes from the gas that is produced by our bacteria…. any leafy greens will produce methane as the cellulose is not broken down properly in the stomach and it cant be processed by your intestine… Low fiber will also cause floaters while high fiber will cause sinkers…. it does not really have to do with eating healthy, since healthy eating also has meats and fats in it (yup healthy diet means you have to eat a bit of meat and fat, humans are omnivores so no surprise) so it can go either way…. fun fact, unless you poop out black or grey (blood in the upper intestinal tract and Calcium regulation problems, respectively), watery (diarrhea means evacuating the intestine) or pellet like poop (looks like a bunnys) there is nothing to worry about… there now you know everything about poop…. happy Halloween :P

Answer #5

sorry floaters are high fiber sinkers are low fiber… got those mixed up :P

Answer #6

Either, high fat content in the poop (Fat is less dense and so it will tend to float. OR The poop in question has small (tiny) pockets of gas (flatulence) trapped in it. Totally normal!! And both reasons are obviously influenced by her diet.
