Why do the police always have to wait 24 hours to do something?

in that time many things can happen? I always watch in the movies when somebody is missing that people have to wait 24 hours to do something, why is that i dont thing its that a good policy.

During those 24 hours their not playing cards and eatting doughnuts. They look for fingerprints, last people to see them, far away relitives they might’ve gone to see, ect ect. Most of the time tho, searches start right away here, everyone in the community and the police start the search once their postive their missing. Normally as soon as the police know yes, this person is missing and not just on a vacation, they start looking.

Answer #2

They do that to ensure that the person being reported is actually missing, and just not out doing something that their family or friends are unaware of… to avoid wasting their time.

Sometimes, parents will freak out because their teenager isn’t home when they said they would be. So, they jump to conclusions that their child has been kidnapped, or something bad has happened to them. When they go to the police to report their child missing, the police tell them they need to wait at least 24 hours… to ensure the child is actually missing, and not just out late. They have more important things to do than go looking for a “missing” teenager who has lost track of time and is just hanging out at a friends house.

Answer #3

To be honest I think that rule sux big time! For all you know that child could have been abducted or worse off…writing it off as a missing child then waiting 24 hours to actually begin doing something is why there are kids on milk cartons & why every 5 sec’s a child goes missing never to be seen of heard from again!!!

Now, if the freak-en cops moved their a$$es & actually didnt sit there stuffing their faces w/donuts & cold coffee on tax payers money, perhaps less faces would turn up on milk cartons! Laws for ya…always protecting the guilty rather then the innocent! A pisser I tell ya!

Answer #4

Generally, that rule only applies if an adult has gone missing…if a child goes missing, there is a break in, etc.,..they react immediately.
