Is it right for schools to be against self-expression?

freedom of expression all the way!!! Because otherwise we, at school, would all look the same and generic …grrr… hahaha however I guess it’s probably best because you get people like me who wear deadly [lol] spikes that really freak normals out…

Well thats tricky because the reason schools have dress code is so no one’s distracted. However bright hair coloring and odd piercing can be distracting to other students. On the other hand, once everyone knows your hair is bright pink, it no longer becomes distracting. I dyed my hair platinum blonde and pierced my nose so I can speak to this.

I strongly support the right to self-expression and individuality. Saying that, I went to a private school with uniforms and dress code and it helped people focus on learning instead of “what is she wearing?! She pierced what?!” A cohesive, static learning environment is the best learning environment for young adults. When you get to college, then you can get your nose pierced to match your mohawk.
