getting my bellybutton pierced and I just wanted to know

I’m getting my bellybutton pierced and I just wanted to know how much it hurts and how hard it is to clean it and how, which kind of ‘ring’ is best to put it in, etc. Help?

Heyyy :] I got my bellybutton pierced when I was 12, and believe me, it doesn’t hurt as much as you’re thinking it will. When you get the piercing, he clamps this thing on it, and pulls the skin out. They say it’s the most painful part, but It really isn’t :P The actual piercing portion just feels like a pinch. It honestly hurts more healing, you’ll snag the ring and all that good stuff, lol. For cleaning, do it daily until the swelling is gone, and it’s healed to the point you can move it around, pull on it, etc. without it hurting at all. An infected bellybutton is the worsttt. You can buy this thing called Bactine at a grocery store, it works well for cleaning. Do not take the ring out during healing no matter what. After it’s healed though, any type of ring is fine :] I have about 16 different ones, and I adore the ones that dangle down your stomach. Just find ones you like :DDD I hope it all goes well, dear.

I got my belly button pierced about a month and a half ago. When you’re getting it done, it’s reallllly quick, and the pain isn’t that bad - it’s more of a pinching feeling. As for cleaning, there’s a couple of ways to do it.

BUT, be sure to wash your hands prior to using either of these cleaning methods.

  1. Dissolve two tablespoons of sea salt into 500mL of water. Use a shot glass, flip it onto the pierced area, and form a vacuum seal and soak for a minimum of two minutes. After the two minutes, rinse the area with warm water and dry using a disposable paper towel. or 2) Use a Q-tip. Put it under warm water, and use a mild anti-bacterial soap such as Dove, Ivory,Specotro-Gel, Dial, or Jergens. Remove any crusty buildup around the piercing. Work around the piercing for 5-10 seconds and rotate/slide the jewlry through the hole so the soap travels through the piercing. Rinse the soap away with warm water and roate/slide the jewelry to rinse away all soap. Gently pat dry the area using disposable paper towels.

For the first few days, you might want to have Advil, Motrin IB, or some type of Ibuprofen to help reduce swelling. Soreness and redness are common for 4-10 days. There also might be a clear yellowish fluid that comes out,. It’s not pus, it’s your immune system regenerating and showing you that your piercing is healing.

The healing pierod for belly button piercings is anywhere from 9 weeks - 6 months.

Try not to wear tight clothing, try not to sleep on your stomach for a while, and avoid touching/playing with your barbell/ring…Your hands always have bacteria on them.

Clean your piercing twice a day, and always after showering/swimming.

Lastly, yeah, ring or barbell, it’s up to you. I got a barbell, and as sweetfairie06 said, it’s very easy to clean.

Hope this helps!:) Good luck

I have had my belly button pierced for like 3 years now. The pain is the same (well it was for me), if you have long fingernails, pinch your belly button..I used a barbell to get it peirced and It was very easy to clean so that is what I would reccommend. I hope all goes well. And remember to keep it clean.

All is said by now, but try to avoid piercing with a ring. The are almost garenteed an infection. In plymouth they refuse to pierce with one.
