Why do people pray about everything?

I notice more and more lately that people pray about everything from who they can date to them passing a test and simple stuff like that but i dont get why. Im not religious at all and i have nothing against people that are but i find it pointless to pray about things like that for instance. My cousin used to pray to past a test all the time when she was in college and when she passed she would thank jesus and im just like umm God nor jesus passed this test for you, you did by studying all the time. If someone that didnt know the material and prayed for 2 weeks and took the test they probably wouldht pass. Just tell me your opinions about it.

Answer #1

They use the concept of god as their lucky charm.

Answer #2

yes god is such a lucky charm that this world is going to hell lmao

Answer #3

haha, seriously.

Answer #4

i swear sometimes i dont see peoples views on stuff, thats why i stopped believing in god because religious people made it seem like a bunch of non sense

Answer #5

Faith. Strength. They put all their faith in their God to help them, whether a small issue or tragic. It’s better to do something instead of nothing anyways.

Answer #6

Not really i dont believe in anything atm and im doing great i actually know who i am now and i didnt know myself when i did believe in a god.

Answer #7

Yeahh, same here. Things can be proven against it, but everyone still believes in these things. i don’t understand it. Different strokes for different folks though I guess.

Answer #8

True although it gets on my nerves when i see people pray cuz we all know Jesus isnt gonna come and save you from your problems.

Answer #9

Asking god to help you get a boyfriend when you’re like 13 or so, is like asking satan to do your homework in my opinion. Praying is fine I guess, but some things just shouldn’t be prayed for. People need their priorities straightened out.

Answer #10

exactly, but that’s why they do it I think, because it gives them hope when everything around them is lame.

Answer #11

I guess i think god is an excuse for people to be good plus if they do their safe theyll go to heaven if there is one and they will just die if not

Answer #12

I see your point but at the end of the day issues that you or even me might see as nothing important to pray about others can see as something important. Some people might feel they can rely on god for everything.

Answer #13

And those people need to sort out life’s priorities and look at the bigger picture.

Answer #14

Cause they cannot do anything else.

Answer #15

For exactly the same reason as other people do not pray about anything.

Both are dictated by personal beliefs.

Answer #16

People pray because they believe in God. Religion and belief gives some people strength and hope and often it is a little bit of confidence (which praying can help you get) that helps you accomplish small things or even big things. I personally don’t believe in it, but it really works for some people and there is nothing wrong with it.

Answer #17

Pray is you communicating with God, it’s a must for the christian faith.

Answer #18

For me, prayer is just a way to communicate with God and tell Him I agree with Him. For example, if I ask God for provision, I am simply aggreeing with Him because He promised to provide all my needs. It is also a way to thank Him for loving me and taking care of me. I think we are really blessed to have a God who allows us an open line of communication at all times.

Answer #19

When you pray for help on a test, you’re really praying for divine intervention. Lol. But for the boyfriend thing, people believe that God puts somebody else on this earth for you to find to be your soulmate, or whatever.

Answer #20

Well for Christians who have a personal relationship with God, pray to him about everything because we know that he is watching over us and protecting us. It’s basically putting an all knowing and all powerful God in charge of you life.

Not to mention God wants us to pray about everything… he asks us to pray without ceasing. Prayer is a powerful tool given to us by God… its a way to actually talk to him and communicate with him whether one wants to believe it or not.

The reason why she gives thanks is to give God the praise because ultimately we should praise God for everything. It is his praise to be given.

Oh and the reason why someone who prays for 2 weeks and doesn’t study fails…. prayer is not an excuse for laziness.

Answer #21

And who gets to decide what is important and what is not? Should people be praying based on what others feel should be made a priority?

Answer #22

Uh yeah because im pretty sure praying about someone getting better when they’re really sick is a lot more important than praying over some stupid test.

Answer #23

Worry about nothing, pray about everything

Answer #24

cough cough Yeah I’ll just take your word for it.

Answer #25

People need to have hope. For some people, prayer gives them comfort and they hope that their prayers will be answered. I don’t think it’s even necessary to believe in God when you pray. I pray as a form of meditation, to organize my thoughts, to give myself hope. I don’t pray to a deity.

Answer #26

Ok for people who believe in God, prayer is essential. In the bible, if you so choose to read and believe, god says that nothing is too big or too small for him (ranging from sick and dying to simple tests to I hope I get a girlfriend/boyfriend to I hope mom packed me a fruit roll up in my lunch box). God desires a personal relationship with us and as someone who has a personal relationship with anyone else, they talk to them about everything. It’s what Christians do. We love feeling that we can talk to God about anything (big range) and it’s not out of concern or importance of God.

As for prioritize, putting God first in our lives is priority. And that comes before tests, the dying, and that fruit roll up.

If y’all don’t believe in God, then I respect that. One of y’all used to, if you needed to find yourself great. We all need to. Just don’t underestimate the power of prayer, even if you don’t think it does anything…. It does to the individual.

Answer #27

Prayer is the thing we most need to keep practising daily, thats for sure. People, well believers pray to God because they know they need God to be with them to get through the day. It is said in the bible that God wants us to seek him and be dependant on him, and by through prayer we our putting our lives on Gods hands; we’re pretty much saying ‘Father, without you; I cant do anything. Give me the blessing I need for today so I can honour and glorify you in Your will.’. Through prayer we humble ourself before God therefor God knows that we need him daily, its also stated in the bible that God wants you to turn to him in every situation you get to, again this shows that your dependant on him. And through prayer you communicate with God and develope your relationship with him. A lot of believers finds this difficult to do cos we like to be in control in our lives and we like to know whats actually going on every minute thats going to pass by.

God wants us to be dependant on him cos everything that we have comes from him, through his grace you can see another day light, you have the strength to stand up and be free, God gives and takes away; thats why we need him daily through prayer and the gospel because we need to be thankful for every morning that comes. In the bible it also said that Jesus spent hours praying alone in the wilderness, this shows devotion; but us humans needs to do this more than Jesus did because Jesus had nothing to ask for or ask for forgiveness because He was a sinless man, but us humans are all sinners and we should spend more time in prayer asking God to forgive us for everything that dishonoured him, and to have him walk with us daily in our lives and mold us to be more like Jesus so we can do it for the glory of God and not for the pride for our sinful nature.
