Well I think it’s because the Mom makes the decision, and a Mom would trust a girl more…maybe because I babysit, and the Moms always chose me…

Yeah it is because my aunt is always making me babysit and I always ask her why and she says my other cousin isn’t available. lol ;P

The percent of male sex offenders is a lot higher than female sex offenders. I’m sorry, it may not be fair, but that is reality. I’m not saying every male is a sex offender, but there’s just a higher risk. A risk I wouldnt be willing to take. Also, when you talk about babysitters, it sounds like you’re talking about a teenager. A male teenager is (on average), less mature and has poorer impulse control. Not to mention that in general females tend to be socialized to take care of others, including younger siblings. It may be sexist, but reality is that women and men have certain biological differences while developing, in general they experience different socializations, and in general they display different behaviors. I realize these are generalizations. My male cousin who is only 18 would make a far better babysitter than I would (female and 24). But on average…

some of the parents express concerns when guys first start, but once they got to know him most of them will be fine with it. i don’t know… a lot of people are prejudiced against nurturing men. we live in a very sexist society. and some people are suspicious of any man who is nurturing and gentle… they seem to think a guy can’t take care of children as well as a girl. i think that is sad!! guys are different than girls in how they relate to children but that is NOT a bad thing!!!

lol! yeah it might be a little bit easier. I babysit for my aunt and her little boy is 1 and is not used to being away from his mom. So he keeps on crying he is starting to get used to being with me though.

I agree. I do think people tend view nurturing men as suspect and they dont think men can take care of children as well as women. Which is ridiculous. My father took care of me as an infant. I’m still alive. (I reserve the right to have multiple viewpoints on this subject).

Well sometimes girls are more sensitive than guys. For example, if a male kid falls, a boy is most likely to just brush. Where as a girl would probably run to the kid, and make sure he is ok…lol

But who is to say that running over is better? If you look at 3 year olds who fall, they’ll wait to see how you react before crying. Sometimes it is better to just kinda pat them on the head and tell them they’re fine and just let them go and play…

A long time ago some girl my mom knew who went to her school was supposed to go to a party or a dance or something, and her cousins were supposed to pick her up and take her home to make sure she was safe and watch her. im unclear if they were supposed to babysit her, but the bottom line is they ra.ped and beat her and killed her. they were released from j.ail a while ago, now what mother would risk THAT taking care of her baby? i would never even consider a boy, or even a girl i didnt know that well. the fact is you should completely trust your babysitter and not hire someone randomly
