Why people always say black is not a color?

My favorite color is black, so I have to disagree.

Answer #1

backs not a colour, its a shade.

Answer #2

Black isn’t a color because it’s the absence of color.

Answer #3

Well it sounds stupid to say “My favorite shade is black!” ¬_¬

Answer #4

It’s still my favorite, lol…whatever it is.

Answer #5

Hehe, it’s my favorite to but heck, if someone corrected me for saying that black is my favorite color, well, they wanna be a smart butt to early in the morning :P

Answer #6

Answer #8

WHITE is the absence of color =) it is my fav color

Answer #9

its an absense of colour,

Answer #10

lol, white isn’t the absence of color, it’s all the color joined so I figure it’s the unification of all colors :)

Answer #11

lol i thought black was the “unification” of all the colors?! o.O

Answer #12

Well no, lol, if you take white light, and refract it, you can see all the colors being dispersed, now if you take black light (which is no light at all, lol )and try to refract it, you get nothing but black :)

Answer #13

It is because white includes all the colors and black reflects color, thus it doesn’t have color. That is why black isn’t a color and is a shade.

Answer #14

You should just be like ‘’I don’t have a favorite colour’’ then the person will be like ‘’Oh, why not?’’ and you can lower your eyes and whisper to them ‘’my favorite colour is a SHADE’’ and slink away.

Answer #15

LOL…. XD

Answer #16

The same reason people state many facts? Because they’re true. Black technically isn’t a colour. It’s a fact, just because you like it doesn’t mean you can make it a colour. It’d be like me saying, “Why do people say tomatoes are a fruit? I like to call them a vegetable because they’re my favorite vegetable.”

Answer #17

Black is the total lack of color. that is why it is not a color. All colors are various combinations of the three primary colors: red, yellow, blue. You cannot make black from those colors.

Answer #18

I thought if you mixed all colors together you get black…?

Answer #19

Dealing with light frequencies the mixture of all other resonances creates white light… black is the absence of light. With pigment… the mixture of all pigments or simply complementary ones will create something close to black… but not pitch black.

Answer #20

because it is not on the color wheel. there is red, red-orange, orange, orange-yellow, yellow, yellow-green, green, green-blue, blue, blue-violet, violet, red- violet. white is a tint grey is a tone and black is a shade. if you add white to a color it tints it lighter. if you add grey the color has a different tone to it. if you add black to a color it gets a shade darker
