20.Unitarian-Universalism: 800 thousand

21.Rastafarianism: 600 thousand

22.Scientology: 500 thousand

When you’ve got these stats available, knowing that the largest religious groups would also be the most emotional group, who WOULD definitely support a movie like this, wouldn’t it make business sense to produce it and simply wait for the $ to keep rolling in???

Look at the following:

“The screenwriter’s suit claimed Gibson told him the budget for the movie would be in the $4 million to $7 million range, but that it was significantly higher. [Most say about $30 million. -Ed.]

Fitzgerald also claimed that Gibson told him he would not receive any money from the film, but considered it a gift of his faith.

His attorneys also claimed Gibson spent tens of thousands of dollars on his children’s education while filming in Italy and paid a chiropractor $78,000. They contended those expenses lowered payments to Fitzgerald. [THR]

Meanwhile, Passion of the Christ made almost $612 million worldwide. It was the highest-grossing non-English language movie as well as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made. “

Now I would say, he has hit the jackpot and good for him. But according to the same religioun who supported him:

Christians do not have wealth

In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus tells his followers to give up on possessions: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

In Matthew 19:21 Jesus says: “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Does your Minister, Pastor or other christian live in a nice houses, drive a nice cars, wear nice clothes? Why Don’t they share their wealth with poor under nourished christians? Why aren’t they listening to Jesus?

Think about it, he made millions out of the largest support group in the world and Celebrate it with a glass of the finest whiskey in the hand ;-)

Was what fake? The story? The ferocity of the torture? The book it was taken from? Gibson’s performance? Whatever you think of Gibson, the scenes were tame by comparison to the actual event. I don’t know how you can read the works of historian Josephus and the gospels and not shudder. For too long people had assumed that it was a “piece of cake” to endure crucifixion.

Crucifixion was almost never performed for ritual or symbolic reasons outside of Christianity, but usually to provide a death that was particularly slow, painful (hence the term excruciating, literally “out of crucifying” gruesome (hence dissuading against the crimes punishable by it) and public, using whatever means were most expedient for that goal. Crucifixion methods varied considerably with location and time period.

The Greek and Latin words corresponding to “crucifixion” applied to many different forms of painful execution, from impaling on a stake to affixing to a tree, to an upright pole (what some call a crux simplex) or to a combination of an upright (in Latin, stipes) and a crossbeam (in Latin, patibulum) The length of time required to reach death could range from a matter of hours to a number of days, depending on exact methods, the prior health of the condemned, and environmental circumstances. Death could result from any combination of causes, including blood loss, hypovolemic shock, or sepsis following infection, caused by the scourging that preceded the crucifixion, or by the process of being nailed itself, or eventual dehydration.

Despite the fact that the ancient Jewish historian Josephus, as well as other sources, refer to the crucifixion of thousands of people by the Romans, there is only a single archaeological discovery of a crucified body dating back to the Roman Empire around the time of Jesus which was discovered in Jerusalem in 1968. It is not necessarily surprising that there is only one such discovery, because a crucified body was usually left to decay on the cross and therefore would not be preserved. The only reason these archaeological remains were preserved was because family members gave this particular individual a customary burial.

To me it was a step above a slasher movie. I thought it was very disturbing. Mel Gibson proved one thing (other than his anti-semitism), he can do blood and gore very well.

Answer #4

Fake. The passion story was not historical. It was a symbolic message. In it, Jesus represents the religious Jews, betrayed by their fellow power hungry Jews, and subjected to agony and destruction at the hand of Rome as a result.

Answer #5

Im sorry , you “bible” readers, are just a typical example of folks who have been misleaded and are a product of christian propoganda. Its people like you and movies and propoganda like this that leads to a racist sexist and anti tolerant society. As Karl Marx once said “ Religion is the opium of people” applies perfectly here

Answer #6

I thought it was horrible… the most violent movie I’ve ever seen.

unnessicary.

The scene in silent hill where Cybil is whipped by barbed wire was very reminiscent of when I saw Passion.

Answer #7

Yes - thought it was great - shows us what He went through to pay the price for our sins - actually the Bible says His face was unrecognizable…He is Worthy !!

Answer #8

Fake? read the bible. Do you think it was easy to be crucified? That was a horrible way to die. Study history kids! If the Passion of the Christ didn’t raise your emotions than you must be numb. Jesus died to save you in your sinful condition despite what condition you think your in. and what you think you need. He died for all who would accept his gift of salvation.

Answer #9

Yes, I saw it and thought it was GREAT!

Why focus on the teachings of Christ, the message of love and peace, when you can focus on the hatred, blood and cruelty, that is what sells tickets.

There is nothing a jew loves more than a movie about the torture of Christ written and produced by an anti-semite.

Mel Gibson is my hero…only Mel would have the guts to do this movie AND the guts to say to a jewish policeman when he was arrested for drunk driving “”F*cking Jews…Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world”

What would you expect from the son of Hutton Gibson, a holocaust denying, jew hater?

Answer #10
