Paranoia has been at it's all time high

Ever since someone tried breaking into my house a few moths ago, my paranoia has been at it’s all time high. Every night when I’m trying to go to sleep, I think I’m hearing noises downstairs. Examples, I think I hear the door raddling, the sliding window open, the dishes being broken, loud thumps, and creaks on the stairs. When I go to check if anyone has broken in, theres no one. Everything was how we left it. So I go back to bed, and continue to hear the noises. That happens most nights. How can I stop being so paranoid? I don’t go to sleep until around 2:30 a.m. Because of this.

This might just be a boy thing but before you go to bed get an object to take up with you eg. Knife, bat, gun, anythink you have that’s harmfull. It might make you feel more secure.

Answer #5

Yes… you can…

Well first of all, you not sleeping at a regular hour is making it worse (I cant be bothered to get into it, but read up on negative reinforcement). So, you really do need to sleep. Also, not getting enough sleep is enough to make anyone more anxious and paranoid… So, get to bed… Even if you think you hear the noises… You also need to talk yourself through it. Every time you hear a noise, you talk yourself through it rationally… I have this random paranoia that strikes too… No idea where it comes from… I usually feel safer when I lock the door… So you can try that… And consider getting an alarm system put in? That may help… But other than that, it is a simple matter of talking yourself through it… If that doesnt work, consider talking to a therapist…
