Should we outlaw gerrymandering just to get a higher chance of some new members in the house and possibly some more expansed diversity in the states?

Answer #1

Well I don’t think it is possible to outlaw gerrymandering, the whole system is F’ed up.

Answer #2

I think you need a complete reform of the voting system to do that.

Outlawing one trick will lead to the invention of another trick.

Answer #3

Hard to say. Remember after the 2000 census Texas Republicans were upset because the way the districts ended up Democrats were slightly over-represented so they proposed a redistricting plan to heavily over-represent Republicans. Gerrymandering often backfires. Adjusting boundaries such that one party has a slim majority in many districts instead of a heavy majority in a few can lead to fewer seats if the politicians miscalculate or there are political shifts. Clever people will try to game any system you come up with.
