I’ve been cutting and I’m just so unhappy but I’m scared to tell someone and my friends have begun to notice and my best friend asks if there is anyhting wrong and I lie and say there isn’t but there is and I dont know what to do I dont wanna live andeverything is just so worthless help!

You need to know that even though today feels so long and unbearable it will pass just as yesterday did. You need to focus on yourself and be selfish right now…not in an arogant mean way but you need to take what belongs to you, self worth. You have the right to be happy and right now if you are living with parents, that is probably what is so hard on you. You are getting to an age where you feel very competent and when someone else is in control and telling you no you cant do this and yes you will do that it is hard to deal with when you just want to be left alone and be independent. I moved out before I should have and now that I am almost 30, have a great husband, kid and dog with a fun life to go with it…gosh it scares me to think that when I was where you are minus the cutting I am so glad I held on and looked for something to make me happy. Go to church or just read your bible. Find a fun hobby like scrap booking pics of you and all your friends. You can do it alone and have some personal almost meditating time while getting a look at memories that were considered fun and you then begin to realize, my mind is very powerful to put myself here in this “I dont want to live state” but ummm I will be ok b/c it hasn’t all been bad. I think bad can be magnified easily and when something good happens it’s easy to forget and not be grateful for all you have.

Is there anyone you can talk to—a parent/both, a friend or their parent/s, even startimg with a counselor at your school can be a start, just to start to get things out in the air. You sound so very depressed and truthfully nothing will help you that’s been said on here (other than what Ethmer said and the hotlime #”s she left). Those hotline #’s could very well be a terrific starting point as well. Going shopping, drinking tea in the morning–although, very nice and well meant suggestions–will not help when someone is clinically depressed, which my dear, you so sound! If you do want someone other than the hotlines to bounce things off of you can funmail me anytime. My fm is open. So you don’t even have to be a friend, although I would be honored if you felt like going over and adding urself. Don’t feel as if your burdening me, or taking up my time, I’m here to give advice. And you can contact me any time!! [¤=

Believe it or not, if you just try to smile (it sounds rediculous) you may feel better. Something different in your life is needed; you’re unhappy probably because you need change, and you don’t realize it. Join a club or something.

Answer #4

You are at an age where hormones, emotions and even your brain are undergoing strong changes. It is natural to occasionally feel confused or depressed.

The best thing you can do is to talk to a counselor or therapist. Barring that, find someone you can communicate your emotions and thoughts with, sort of like a sounding board. Keeping your thoughts to yourself doesn’t help. If you can’t find someone around you then consider Fun Mailing someone on Fun Advice whose advice you like. It’s relatively private and gives you a good sounding board.

If you are having problems or are depressed, below are a couple of sites that may help you:

Worldwide:

Check out the Befrienders link below. They are not only a suicide hotline but also offer help to people who are stressed or are in a state of depression.

Fun Mail a “sounding board”!

I would assume that you can’t talk about what you are going through with anyone because it is too personal and you don’t want others to know about it in relation to you.

The solution, then, might be to pick someone on Fun Advice whose advice you like and Fun Mail them. (You can check out the quality of someone’s advice by clicking on their name; going down to their recent advice, click on view all, then click on the questions that might interest you and view their answers.) Explain to them that you are having problems and want to have someone to use as a “sounding board” and would like to know if they would be willing to be your sounding board. Fun Mail is basically private, so you shouldn’t have any concerns about your privacy.

Although there are many users on Fun Advice who would be qualified, I’d suggest the person be an Advisor, for two reasons: First, most Advisors have several hundred or even thousands of Answers under their belt which can really give you a perspective about them; and second, you can simply click on the Advisors link at the top of the page and view a list of the most recently active Advisors with information about them AND a total of their Answers. (Don’t contact them by that “Ask me a question” link. That’s public. Instead, click on their name which will take you to their Profile page, then click on the “Send me Fun Mail” link on the left side of the page.)

You also have the ability to Fun Mail anyone (Advisor or otherwise) by clicking on the “Send me Fun Mail” link near the top of the Answer under the person’s name.
