New mother. Please help

I am a new mother, how can I soothe my son? He is only a few days old, and I cannot soothe him right. But every time he is in his father’s arms, he is happily content. Someone please help me. I don’t know why my son immediately stops crying when he is in his fathers arms and starts crying when he is in mine.

I have no idea about being a mom, but my parents said I was like that too when I was a baby. I think sometimes babies are just like that with a certain person, but they usually grow out of it. I’m not sure what else to say! Sorry!

Phrannie is right. It is temporary but it can be soul destroying for a new mum. If your feeling tense about it, then the baby might be picking up on your anxiety. Maybe your partner holds the baby in a certain position, try to mimic what he does.

Also men have deeper voices, babies are very sensitive to those deeper vibrations as everything sounds muffled and deep in the womb. Its probably a familiar sound to him.

Swaddling was good advice too.

Your the mummy, honey. There WILL come a time when all your baby wants is you. The first three months are the hardest, dont be hard on yourself too.

Sending you love and sympathy with this message.

Possibly it’s the bigger stronger arms…remember when he was in the womb, he was held very securely…Have you tried swaddling him… not tight, but semi-tight in a receiving blanket (just not loose is what I’m saying), that seems to sooth some babies…gives them the same secure feeling they had in the womb.

In just a few days from now, your smell will bring him comfort…don’t stress yourself over this, honey…it’s temporary.
