My chihuahua won't feed her new born puppies

My chihuahua won’t feed her new born puppies what should I do

Answer #1

Hi…did your mom chi. have a c-section or did she have them natural ? Sometimes this can make a difference on how mom reacts to her babies…I have seen where if mom has a c-section & if babies are not introduced to mom as soon as she wakes up…she might not realize she had her babies & might not want nothing to do with babies…if she had her babies natural & don’t want anything to do with them…them you should check through vet to make sure no pups are sickly…if you have to feed babies urself…u will need the pup bottles…& get some puppy formula…fix a 4 or 8 oz. baby bottle so you don’t have to keep making formula at each feeding…do not warm puppy formula up in a microwave…set small bottle in a container with hot/warm water so that can warm the formula…test milk like you would a baby bottle…feed pups at a angle…it’s better to keep them from choking…they don’t eat very much at one feeding…they will need to be fed every 2 hrs…or so…when they are hungry…burp pup using your 2 fingers patting gently on ther back…I would also keep trying to encourage babies to suckle from mom…every chance I get…mom’s milk is way better than any formula…I hope this helps…

                                                                            dichihuahua

how old is she? is this her first litter?

Ditto to Magichalo, you need to consult a vet and do it fast, these little guys can crash fast. Mom may be sick you will need to feed them and a vet can tell you what to do and how much.

I would call your Vet right away! It is early enough in the day to call and find out what to do. There are so many new meds out that may stimulate her maternal instinct, like Oxytocin. She and the pups need to be seen by your Vet ASAP.

To try to feed Chihuahua pups this young when you do not know what you are doing may cause you to lose them.

If she won’t feed them then you will have to. Your local vets office should have nursing bottles and milk. Just do not! give them regular milk. It will cause them to have diarrhea. They need to eat about every 3 hours. Good luck! Sam
