My chihuahua won't feed her puppies any more.

Hello, I have a two-year-old chihuahua that had six puppies and they are 3 weeks old tomorrow and she won’t feed them anymore…I have to hold her in my lap so they can eat…she will clean them but wont feed them.please can somebody help me I dont know what to do… Thank you hammer913

Do they already have teeth coming in? I would stick your finger in there mouth and feel there gums. They may be hurting mom now. I ween my chi pups between 3-4 weeks of age. Or she could have a infection in her breast. Called mastitis. Do her nipples look bright red, hard, swollen? If the pups have teeth I would switch them to food and that is another converstation if you have questions on that.

she might not have very good mothering instincts. If she stops feeding them altogether, you might have to bottle feed them or eyedropper feed them yourself.

I’m not sure when pups start getting their teeth, but if they have started to get them, maybe they’re starting to hurt the momma dog.

Ditto to Harley…sometimes mama knows best, and those needle teeth are like mother natures way of pushing them closer to a food bowl…
