How much Native American blood do I need to be able to be legally consider a Native American by the United States?

I believe my dad is 1/8 and im 1/16, so that enough or did i miss the cut off point?

Answer #1

It’s not just a matter of how much percentage native american blood you have…you ALSO need to be adopted by the tribe.

Is your dad a member? If not, the odds are really, really low that you can get in without him first trying to become a member of the tribe. AND, it depends on the nation you’re talking about…there are 300, more or less, independent native groups in the US, some issue their own passports and have had a treaty with the US government for hundreds of years.

…since you didn’t say what nation you’re considering joining, I’d say the odds are zero….but, if your dad can get into the tribe, that’d be the very first step.

Answer #2

as long as u have some native blood but u have to belong to a tribe. see im 1/2 navajo and 1/2 spanish but im considered full blood because of my grandma

Answer #3

Sigh. Really? OK, so you’re a member of the tribe. They’ve adopted you and you have your papers right? RIGHT?

If not, you’re NOT considered legally native american….

Answer #4

Well my aunt is apart of our tribe, does that increase the odds of my tribe adopting me? i believe i am either Cherokee or camanchee(not sure if i spelled that right)

Answer #5

If one of your parents is American, then you are American.

Answer #6

OMG, really?

….please read the question again, if you don’t understand it…post on their profile to get clarification, OR just skip it and answer another one.

Posting off topic crap…helps nobody. Thanks.

Answer #7

must have missed the additional information. If you answer the question directly on the question board (without clicking the question itself) then you can not see the additional information. But if you said that some answering without reading the question that is not 100% true. Time to learn more now, then.
