Is it a myth that if goldfish freeze in a pond, then unfreeze, they'll still be alive ?

Answer #1

a lot of the time only the top of the pond freezes and the water under the pond is still liquid. There is enough oxygen for the fish to breathe too if its not overpopulated. Thats why people can go ice-fishing.

Answer #2

No i mean like if the whole pond freezes. My aunt & gramma said if their pond with 17 goldfish in it freezes (their having a blizzard where they live) then once the whole pond unfreezes the fish start swimming again. o.o..

Answer #3

I dont think thats true, in my way of looking at it, once the whole pond freezes the fish are dead, but then again I have never had a pond with fish so I cant tell you for sure.

Answer #4

I’d think they’d die too. Neither have i. But thanks.

Answer #5

they will die, it happens quite a bit here in the north. it is called WINTER KILL and all fish species that i am aware of are not immune to it.

Answer #6

I had a fish freeze and unthaw once. Swam perfectly fine.

Answer #7

o_o

Answer #8

They will survive if the top of the pond freezes but there is still unfrozen water underneath. Goldfish can survive in super cold water but if they freeze I’m pretty sure they’re dead.
