Does Mycoplasma (a genus smallest bacteria) have to depend on host cell?

I want to know whether Mycoplasma can be grown artificially? or they just depends on host cell unlike normal bacteria ?

Answer #1

There are several dozen species of mycoplasma, and they are all parasites. All parasites require a host. Yes, mycoplasma depends on a host.

Answer #2

but i read it can be grown artificially as it is a genus of bacteria. Yes it also depends on hosts but can be grown without a host as well. Only virus must need a host to survive. isn’t it?

Answer #3

I’m not too sure, you’ve definately got a good question there since the artifical part is new to science and I’m not even sure if it’s fully developed.
