How can I get my parents to support me moving out?

I’m 19 years old and I want to move out of my house. My Dad hasn’t supported me in years and I know my mom loves me, but I want to be out on my own. I want to move to Seattle and live my own life. My fiance and I are both financially stable. I want to get out of here but I don’t know how. I don’t want to just pick up and leave and not say goodbye, but my parents keep saying I’m not allowed to go. I think Its time for me to live my own life. What should I do? Should I move and be happy and start living my own dreams or should I stay here be miserable just to make my family happy? I NEED UR HELP!

Dear sarahbaker310, At 19 you can leave. But keep in mind if you do go and things don’t work will they allow you back? Perhaps this is something you need to discus with them before moving out. What happens if you break up with your boyfriend, loose your job, get hurt and must take a lot of time off work. Are you prepared to deal with all these situations? Perhaps this is what your parents are concerned about. Parents only want their children to be safe and when they feel they won’t be they get their guard up. So sit with you mother and tell her your plans for your future, assure her you will be safe by showing her your plans if something does happen. When she knows you are safe she will lighten up. Sue…good luck

Well you are an adult, so legally your parents can’t do anything to stop you. You can make your own decisions now. You just have to tell them, you don’t want to make them mad and you understand that they don’t want to lose their daughter, but you want to live your life if you have money, do what you want to do. I live by this moto:

You only live life once, so live life to the fullest.

GOOD LUCK. - let me know how it goes :)
