My new dog

Hey everyone, I have a 3 year old dachshund and I just found 1 1/2 dog that was being mistreated and he is a dachshund and mini pinscher and I had to help him sooo well now I have a problem he will not stop humping my girl dog and I dont like it a feel bad that he wont stop so im getting him neutered wednesday and I hope it will stop and I asked the people I took him from why he does it and they said they let him hump the cat for something for them to watch how nasty are they thats not funny now how do I correct him and tell him no when he was though to do it for fun

Once he’s neutered, and recovered…you’re simply going to have to discourage it EVERYTIME he does it…push him off…Say “NO!!!”…or a squirt bottle for long distance discipline.

This is an ingrained habit now, so it’s going to take at least 30 days to start getting a handle on it, and another 2 weeks or so, for him to start to “forget” his obsession. Because it’s in the “obsessive range” of behavior…if down the road a ways he starts doing it again, you’re going to have nip it right away…

The key here is remembering that it’s NOT going to completely go away in a week, or month…but since he’s going to be your dog, there WILL come a time when you won’t ever remember that he did it at all. Consistancy is going to be you mantra :)

It’s a natural behavior for dogs.

All you can really do is discipline him every time he tries mounting, but you’re attempting to stop an animal from doing what’s in it’s nature to do. Once he’s neutered, he MAY stop of his own accord, but don’t depend on it.

First I want to say that you are a good pet owner. You understand the need to neuter your dog. I hope your female dog is spayed also. And what a good thing you did by rescuing this dog. Great job! Neutering will help but it sounds like this behavior was encouraged before you rescued him. You will have to use reinforcement to help him stop.

Good luck and GOOD FOR YOU!!!
