My husband can't find work because of a stupid felony

Why stupid, you ask? Because we were stupid. what he did was tragic, but not a crime. Seven years ago when getting home from the graveyard shift he picked up and carried our infant son into the living room for some quality time before going to sleep. Our sons head hit the door frame, completely by accident, and we went to the emergency room. Of course, someone notified CPS, and even though the Doctor insisted it was clearly an accident, the state pressed charges. Here is where we get stupid. With fear of losing our child, and my husband being sent to jail, and making a stupid choice in lawyer (straight outa the yellow pages, ya’ll) we do a plea so he only gets probation for three years. Oh, and did I mention this was in New Mexico, where there is no expungement? So he is forever labeled a monster, and since has been unable to find any employment. I am in the depths of depression and seriously considering drastic measures. Thank goodness, at least our son is healthy and well adjusted. Can he ever find work? We live in Washington state now, are there any programs that can help? or do I just rob a bank and head off to Antigua?

Maybe you should tell him not to put the felony on his resume and hope that they dont find out. Apply for jobs that don’t do background checks. I’m sorry that happened to you. Hope you work it out!
