How long does it take to get an MRI? And what do you have to do?

I’m getting an MRI done tomorrow and I’m slightly nervous, not knowing what to expect o-o

Answer #1

A few very specialized exams can take longer - but rarely as long as … 45 minutes it was with out contrast,

2 years ago I had several MRIs. I spent 2 hours total total in the tube but never more than 30 minutes at a time. Being in the tube isn’t fun: it was hot, loud, and cramped. Your technician will sit in another room but will be able to see and talk to you. They gave me headphones and turned on my favorite radio station. If you are claustrophobic than they may give you sedation to help you relax and stay still during the scan. Most people find them unpleasant but not too bad.

Answer #4

I had one several years ago. I believe I was in there for about 20 minutes? Maybe a bit longer? It was really cramped in there but not too bad. Don’t worry, it’s no biggie :)

I was super sick in the 9th grade. One thing noone told me about when I was gonna get the MRI was that they insert this huge injection thingy that is connected to something they were calling the dye or smth. I dont remember. But yeah it better to know youre going to be poked. I was closing my eyes the entire time and I think it took 15 to 30 minutes. It felt wierd but I suggest you try your best to stay calm and just close your eyes. It will be fine. Goodluck!
