monarch butterflies/caterpillars

have any of you ever raised sum in a contained area.I have to ask once they are butterflies can they still b kept because I want to keep the butterflies fo them to lay eggs!

As a kid I used to catch dozens of caterpillars and watch them cacoon and hatch, but I always let thmm go afterward, I dont think it can survive indoors.
