what is this caterpillar called?

its black and orange striped I cant seem to find what kind of caterpillar it is. or is it a moth or buterfly?

Answer #1

a BLACK AND ORANGE STRIPED OAK WORM is black with orange stripes- look it up and see if it matches.

are the stripes going lengthwise down the body- or across the body?

another possibility is an ARMY WORM which seem to be cropping up everywhere.

I guess a further description is needed to identify it- I typed in- black and orange striped caterpiller in my browse window and it showed a list of websites containing photos- try that.

Hi Ther fau,

I think the caterpillar you mean is the cinnabar caterpillar, Take a look at google images, theres plenty of pics to cross reference! x

This matamorphs into a red moth (supposed to be lovely… but I hate moths!) Laura
