How do I tell my mom and aunt I want to try to become a vegetarian?

We just had pasta, for dinner, and my aunt (my moms not home) saw me carefully cleaning each pasta noodle free of meat, and pusing it to the side of my plate, eating one noodle at a time. She got mad, saying how I love hamburger meat. How should I tell her I don’t wanna eat meat anymore? I was sick to my stomach to watch them eat that, knowing how that poor baby cow was slaughtered :’(

Answer #1

you could calmly go up to them and say that you no longer want to eat meat because the thought of poor defenseless animals being eaten makes you sick

Answer #2

You can explain to them why Vegetables are good for your health. If there’s a reason, like if you are allergic to meat, tell them. You can also tell them that you don’t enjoy meat,

Answer #3

I’m a vegetarian and I don’t quite remember how I told my parents but it started off as a bet as who could be a vegetarian longer haha, so yeah and then I just kept with it. But you could always just tell her straight, tell her how innocent animals are slaughtered in horrible ways, you could show her a video called “Meet your Meat” which really makes you think about being a vegetarian, also how it’s healthier for you and just generally better for the earth, make sure you know your stuff though so she doesn’t stump you with any questions.

Answer #4

No, The reason i want to go veg, is that I can’t live with the thought that the now beef on my plat was once a defenseless little baby cow that never saw sunlight, was ripped away from his mother and tourcheredd in a slaughterhouse until put to death while screaming and crying.

Answer #5

Also if she’s concerned with your vitamin intake all vegetables contain the same vitamins and minerals meat do, but in a healthier way.

Answer #6

Tell them your thoughts on the matter, and point out the benefits of vegetarianism. Find out a bit about the nutrional challenges of this kind of diet, like iron deficiency, etc, and work out strategies for avoiding these problems. That way they will be less inclined to worry about your nutrition, and it will also show them you have made an educated, mature decision, and that its not a random whim.

Answer #7

Thank you :) My parents are always saying how I’m very mature, I babysit for young children all the time, and I can cook, often when home alone too. Thanks, this advice helped :)
