Are my mollie's young safe without being separated?

i have a yellow molly thats prego, i have a big enough tank for the babies not very many hiding places though. the fish that are in it are a neon tetra, 3 dalmation mollies, 3 yellow mollies, 3 black mollies, a snail, some kind of cat fish… think its a razorback? and two algae eaters. I can try to figure out which are boys and girls if that makes a difference?

I’m not sure what types of fish are more likely to eat other fish, but to be on the safe side you should put her in a little basket type thing thats specially for pregnant and baby fish. It sits around the top of the tank and stops other fish from eating her babies until they get a little bigger. You should be able to get them at a pet store, or somewhere like that. :)

Answer #2

Yes if you make sure they are well fed our mollies and guppies had babies just make sure they are never hungry its like the sharks at an aquarium can swim with their prey the aquarium just makes sure they are well fed so they wont attack the prey.

Answer #3

Yeah but they suck because they collect algae really fast and you wont be able to move the fish to other tanks so you can clean the breeder’s net. It stresses the baby fish if you move them.

Answer #4

At the pet store they have something called baby bushes put them in your tank along with like a castle. and if you keep the babies in the regular tank then they grow faster then if they are in the breeder’s tank….btw if you see all the other fish acting crazy in the tank its because she is shooting out hormones and ready to give birth. if you decide to go with the little net or whatever right after she is done giving birth you need to remove her because preggo mollies dont eat and are hungry after birthing and well her babies will look mighty yummy…if you get my drift.

Answer #5

thanks she had her babies at night and we didnt ever know it or else we would of got a net thing but theres like 9 babies and theyve been fine all day. also thanks bc i was wandering why all my other fish were going crazy !

Answer #6

lol yeah my mom went to vet school taught all this when we were kids so yeah just make sure the adults are really well fed like put more than enough food in the tank

Answer #7

aha, yeah were making sure theyre fed well i am my mom keeps freaking out that i feed them too much but i dont want the babies to become food (:

Answer #8

the down side is you will have to clean the filter a little sooner than planned but when the babies are big its worth it and the other down side is once she has mated she continues to produce those hormones to let everyone know she is available which means in a week or so she may become pregnant again and shell produce babies every month or so until her mate or her die……fish have nothing on bunnies.
