Contact the patient’s primary care physician or health professional and ask if it’s safe to administer medication via the j-tube. If the physician has outstanding orders that OK’s meds to be administered there shouldn’t be any problems provided you’ve had appropriate training or if the patient has HH services covered by a registered nurse; if so, contact the agency and ask for assistance if you need any, most agencies operate on a 24 hour on-call basis. Because each patient/person has varying medical histories, allergies, etc., it’s better to double check with a physician. Take care. :-) -S
