When you go to get married, do you have to pay anything?

I’m not talking about paying for the wedding, I mean if you just want to go to the courthouse or wherever and get married…do you have to pay anything?

If so, about how much?

Answer #1

Yes, I do know that there is a fee, but it should only be a small service fee i.e. them marrying you and maybe some fees for documentations. I am not however 100% sure of this.

Answer #2

It varies from state to state but its not expensive. I know in Louisiana your marriage license is $25, and its $50 for the justice of the peace to marry you. You also have to remember that there will be small fees to change your name on any debit/credit cards, your license and/or state id, etc.

Answer #3

It depends on where you live. In Ontario it is around $100, but I have heard people paying both more and less.

Answer #4

You have to pay county court fees for the registration of the marriage certificate. the cost depends on obviously the county in which you live. I think it was $35.00 in my county. and maybe the question is more for if you are just going to the JP. which is generally $35.00 for the license and $40.00 for meeting with the judge.
