When you get married where do you go and what do you have to do to change your name?

Me and Chris got married yesterday afternoon finally, but i forgot to ask the notary how to legally change my name to take his.

take your marriage certificate and driver license to the dnv……………..

Just take your marriage certificate to the bank, DMV, or apply online (you may need to send a copy of your certificate)…changing the name is actually quite easy

As a sensitive new age guy I’ll point out that you don’t have to change your name. Even if you go by your husband’s family name you can still keep your family name as your legal last name. Your husband can even decide to change his last name to your family name. Remember the movie “On Golden Pond?” In it the husband changed his last name to his wife’s family name Thayer since it was rare.
