How do you legally change your name?

My name is ghastly, and im still 17, but i want to legally change it sometime(i turn 18 in January) How would i go about such endeavors

well seeing as how your’e still a minor you would have to have both of your parents approvals/signatures. but if you wait until your’e 18 you can go in by yourself and you won’t need either parents permission. so i would say wait until you turn 18 then go in and change it

The process differs from one area to another. So, based on your location, you need to file a petition with the Supreme Court - you will need to fill out form CIV-698 and it will cost you about $150.

You may also want to keep in mind that it can be quite a hassle even after you get your name changed and finalized. I talked to a guy who changed his first name right after he turned 18. He is in his early 40’s now and still runs into issues with it. Trying to get a car loan he had to jump through extra hoops to prove he was himself. Same with bank accounts, and some gov’t paperwork.

So just keep in mind changing your name legally could have affects all through out the rest of your life.

I think it costs a grand 2 have your name changed.but u can have it changes at 16 with permision
