Low Sperm Count.

My boyfriend and I have been having unprotected sex, I know the chances of getting pregnant are there, but he just let me know yesterday he has a low sperm count, what are the chances of getting pregnant?

Answer #1

Even if your boyfriend is shooting blanks you should use a condom unless you are in a long term monogamous relationship with no other partners for at least 6 months and have both been tested for STDs.

It is difficult to get pregnant when the number of healthy motile sperm is below 1,000,000. I do know a case where a man with a sperm count around 1,000 was told by his doctor that it was virtually impossible for him to impregnate his wife but it still happened.

Play it safe.

Answer #2

I hate to be so cynical, but your boyfriend probably said that so you’d have sex without a condom.

High/low/no sperm count all still requires a condom. You can never be 100% sure you won’t get pregnant, and even if you don’t, you can certainly still get STDs.

Answer #3

It only takes one. Even if your chances are 1 in a 100, it can happen. Are you ready for that? And how do you know he’s telling the truth? Some icky guys will say stuff like that so they don’t have to use a condom or have you on a pill. They don’t care if you get preggers. Maybe he’s a nice guy. Anyway, if you take chances, you will probably lose.
