Do you think you would be able to live like the Amish?

I personally don’t think I would be able to, or like it very much… unless I was born into it.

Answer #1

Absolutely not

Answer #2

Answer #5

It depends. If I was born amish I could. I would be used to that life. But if I wasn’t (like I am) then ya I’m sure I could.

Answer #6

Absolutely not, although it can be somewhat rewarding.

Everything at your hands reach even though you all have to pitch in to work together & share everything.(can also be somewhat annoying…everyone in your business) I am all for working together til people are all over you & up in ur life 24/7! I need my space & my freedom…:P

Answer #16

the real freedom would come from being free from technology. technology is your life support, how much of it do you even understand? we’re not in control. without it, society would crumble beneath our feet and life would end as we know it. absolute chaos.

Answer #17

I could if I was raised that way. Why wouldn’t I be able to if they are able to? Some of them even use batteries now!

Answer #18

Ditto! :P

Answer #19

Since I grew up on a farm when I was younger I very well think I could handle that aspect of their lifestyle, but I do think that other parts could challenge me to a point where I wouldn’t be able to do it anymore.

One example of what I’d not be very keen on is their means of transportation. The Amish people in our community go everywhere in horse and buggy. They do this even when it’s freezing cold out, which I’m sure can’t be too comfortable.

Another example would be how the ‘father’ is considered the boss in the house. The Amish ladies (wives and children) here aren’t allowed to make any decisions; they must leave all of the discussions and decisions to the man. I find that extremely wrong on many, many levels, and I’d refuse to live that way.

There’s a lot that I think would make it far too difficult, so for the large part, I’d have to say I wouldn’t be able to live that way.

Answer #20

im not a yankie so you cant say dtto lol

Answer #21

XP….

Answer #22

NOWAY NO MUSIC OR DANCING!!

Answer #23

ang and katie are like stalkers rofl my baby is in bed its 07:00ish where she is :(

Answer #24

Hhheeeeyyyyy! I’m not a stalker :P

Answer #25

I would be fine (in fact, I would welcome) the no electricity thing, but I really don’t agree with the no music or dancing or expression thing. I think as humans, music is a staple in our lives and really calms our emotions and releases stress. Music is, yeah there’s no word to describe it.

Answer #26

For a while, yes. For holiday. I work with tech stuff every day, so i find it quite relaxing to have none of that around in my holidays. So I go camping, and walking, make my food on open fire and not use anything technical except a flashlight in case I need to go to the non-existent bathroom at night. For some weeks, that is totally fine.

But after that vacation I love to come home, put my dirty clothes into the laundromat, get some junk-food from the nearest Mc-D, have a hot shower with water coming out of the wall and watch some movie…

Answer #27

It would be an interesting change of pace but I couldn’t live that way long term.

I’ve been to Lancaster county PA and found their lifestyle a paradox. They consider bicycles too modern but allow kids to use push scooters and in-line skates. They can use a tractor inside the barn but they must use horses to work the fields. I would imagine the Amish to be self-sufficient for food but since more money is to be made selling dairy most are dairy farmers and buy everything else they need from their dairy earnings.

In spite of all of this they live a fascinating lifestyle.

Answer #28

:D That’s right, I stalk your page Matt! :P

Answer #29

Matty, I meant the wuv part…I know ur not a Yankee (you’re my bloody Britt) ;P we have bloody stalkers now…must mean we are popular! :P let’s give them something to talk about…what say you?! ;P

Answer #30

Definitely NOT! There’s no daily showers, trust me, it’s pretty gross when they’ve been working in the barn and fields all day (Eau de Manure and Sweat!).

Answer #31

what you got in mind? lol
