How can I smoothly transition away from my family?

So… I am moving to another state in a few days to be with my fiance.’ I am going to be very far from all of my family members and am feeling sick to my stomach already. I want to make the transition as smooth as possible, any suggestions?

The only suggestion I have is that you keep in mind that this is just a part of life. As Doo said to Loretta in Coal Miner’s Daughter, “you have to decide if your my wife or his daughter” when she didn’t want to leave her home with her dad and mom.

So just decide that you’re going to be this man’s wife and it’s time to start your own life. This is what your parents have been training you to do (hopefully).

Nowadays it’s easier than ever to stay in touch with pictures and whatnot. My sister in law has a family website where she posts pictures and stories of their weekends and holidays and I feel like I don’t miss a thing that way.

Maybe keep yourself bus by documenting your trip with your digital camera and make your own little website up?That way, you’ll feel like they all know everything you’re going through and you’ll be more together.

Good luck. Also keep in mind–this is an exciting time!
