What does it mean when you leak brain fluid from your nose?
Months ago, my boyfriend got drunk, passed out and knocked his head pretty hard on the ground. He had a scan, and they said they found a brain cyst. Months later, (around April or so) he was sent to San Diego and they said he was fine, that there’s no brain cyst. The thing is, it’s the army doctors telling him this… I don’t necessarily trust them. Every now and then, this very thin, watery clear liquid will come out of his nose.. like water. He’s convinced that he’s fine, and refuses to get checked again. What does that mean? I did some research and they said it could be brain fluid which can be caused by a good knock on the head.. How bad is it? Thanks. :)
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak may occur from the nose , from the external auditory canal (otorrhea), or from a traumatic or operative defect in the skull or spine. The fluid leak is a result of meningeal dural and arachnoid laceration with fistula formation. Blunt trauma is the most common cause.
He should talk to a doctor, BOTTOM LINE!!!
He won’t! He says he’s fine… He’s very stubborn.
you need to tell him if it is a Cerebrospinal fluid leak then he is at a high risk for meningitis, or infection of the lining of the brain.
I once saw a Medical (Hospital) program on Australian TV in which a lady was having brain fluid leaking from her nose. She was very close to death. Your boyfriend needs to seek medical attention RIGHT NOW.

I know! He’s so stubborn… and the army doctor said ‘’Eh, you’re fine..’’ Okay, whatever he doesn’t have a brain cyst… but the fluid leaking isn’t normal! And the other night I had a dream something bad happened with his head.. so I’m paranoid now lol.
