Why does my laptop battery die so fast?

The laptop itself is from 2006 or 2005, but it was made with all this business hardware ‘n whatnot, so I figured it would be made to last, but it dies or gets close to it in under an hour of straight use. It’s an HP compaq nc6400, from 05 or 06…

Power savers? Like, changing the power plan?

Throughout the years that you had it, was it plugged in magority of the time? That ruined my battery, i had it plugged in almost all the time, and now it lasts about 10 minutes un plugged. Also if you have it on your lap or blankets alot, and over heats, im sure that can effect it too.. buying a new battery would help if you wantes it to last longer..

It wasn’t originally mine.. It was my aunt’s, but when I used it, yeah, it was plugged in the majority of the time. Damn ): I mean, I’ll be getting a new one for college, but that’s about seven or eight months form now lol.. Oh well! Thanks :D

In the future, the best way to make almost any re-chargeable battery last longer is to run it at low as possible (almost dead) before plugging it in. What happens when you charge them “too early” is that the battery develops a “memory” so to speak from too much charging and causes them not to stay charged as long. This goes for everyhting from cordless drills and other power tools to cell phones.
