Labradoodles or Goldendoodles, hypoallergenic?

Hey my family has been looking into getting a labradoodle or goldendoodle. From my research I have found that they are hypoallergenic, which exactly what we want since my brother gets all sneezy. My question is do hypoallergenic pets actually work for people with allergies? I want one more than anything!!!

Here’s the poop on the “doodles”…these are crossbred dogs…They are NOT a breed…that means, that some of the puppies take on more of the genetic makeup of mom, and some take that of the father’s…Not all “doodles” are created equal.

If you pick a pup, pick it on a temporary basis, or have your brother handle and be around that particular pup for a couple of hours to see if he can handle it…if he can’t, there may be another pup in the litter which he isn’t allergic to…that’s how it works with crossbreeds…no pup is exactly like the next.

Have you considered a Standard Poodle? Or a Portugese Water Dog? They’re not small…their both sporty and fun, and each one is just as hypo-allergenic as all it’s littermates…no risk at getting the wrong genetic makeup for your bro.

When a person is allergic, only dogs that need professional grooming can be considered, since their hair grows instead of sheds off…bathing might help with a minor allergy, but it’d be complete misery for someone with high reactivity.

Yes they do work. I have a Lhasa Apso. My nan is allergic. She minded him for 2 weeks. And not a single problem with him!!

There is also a Chipoo or Poochi which is a Poodle Chihuahua. Small if you are looking for a small dog and smart and cute as a button. Hypo-allergenic.

Chihuahua are said to take asthma away?? I don’t know about that it is something I have heard.

Answer #4

it’s mainly targeted at people who have family / friends who are astmatic…

becuase they don’t molt like ‘normal’ dogs, it means that people with astma and eczema are less likely to react, since it’s notmally the animal hair that triggers it…

and I prefer labradoodles…my friend has a chocolate brown one (gorgoues!)

Labradoodles were specially bred to be hypo-allergenic. The first one was purposefully made for a blind girl with allergies. Labradors are great seeing-eye dogs and Poodles shed minimally.

However, I did read somewhere that any dog can be hypoallergenic, as long as you bathe it regularly. I’m not sure how true that is though…
