Jethro Tull

Does any one like Jethro Tull anymore, or are they still around for people to make fun of..?

Answer #1

A 40 year string of sold out concert halls quite literally around the world extending to last night would seem to put the answer in the affirmative. Trust me, if music were reduced to sport the question is not whether Jethro Tull of ANY era would post a ruthless beating on Metallica, the question is whether Metallica would score a point. Shakespeare, though popular in his lifetime, was mostly laughed at and his audience was in large part drunkards. I will allow that Metallica likely plays louder with their childish imitations of Satan’s voice, the world of metal, death metal et al is in for a very nasty surprise when they fittingly meet the real deal. BTW I don’t doubt Metallica has outsold Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington and thousands of other vastly superiour musicians, all that means is a signifigant swath of the world populations are at the very least musical morons.

Answer #2

they are so cool. I love locomotive breath and aqaulung and steel monkey. and all the flute they use. its awesome

Answer #3

when they beat out metallica they pretty much became a joke in the music world lol

Answer #4

I don’t know, every now and then I hear a jethro tull song, I don’t hate hearing it- but they aren’t at the top of my list for favorite bands. then there was the year that they beat out metallica for best heavy metal band- that was such a crock. the 60’s were definitely good to whoever voted on that one. and that is the major source of the jokes I have heard.

Answer #5

Interesting choices, gumguy. I like steel monkey very much too. Otherwise I like a lot of their older ‘folk’ stuff - the Heavy Horses album, Jack in the Green, Velvet Green (very sexy song)…

If you guys like Jethro Tull, do you know much about/like Runrigg? Not the same, but with some similar influences (except Scottish).

Answer #6

oh yeah…popularity doesnt have anything to do with talent… just look at Micheal Jackson or Britney Spears for example.

Answer #7

they did sell over 60 million albums worldwide, Metallica sold about 80 million

Answer #8

whats jethro tull???

Answer #9

I love them. They thought it was really funny when they won best heavy metal band - that’s never how they saw themselves. They were just a load of guys having a good time with all sorts of music - their earliest stuff is very jazz-influenced.
